Lane kiffin beat Kelly when he was at USC. Now Lincoln Riley has beat Kelly. Seems like we took the loser. Oh yeah, don't tell us what to do.

everyone’s fav ND fan here. the issue here is that it’s not one game. it’s his resume. dont let him talk your expectations and standards down. he went 5-5 his last 3 years at ND vs top 25.

in 2021, he did a national interview pre-season talking his roster down w the message “this will be the best coaching job in his career.” (he was looking for an NFL gig or a truck of money from ND after the year.) they were favored in every game. lost the only big game to Cinci. the NIL stuff is just another built in excuse, like when he opened last season about how young they were. always a politician w an out.

dont get me wrong, he’s a very good coach, just not a guy who is a champion at this level for a variety of reasons.

I agree with this zdubs guy. Kelli thought he was gonna easily get the next burrow chase JJ stingley then win his coveted title but hes found out it’s harder than he thought it was gonna be

the sec expanding killed what he thought would be an easier path. at least he didn’t run and hide like Riley to the PAC12 when he saw his SEC future, i guess.

The SEC was never an easier path. If anything expansion with the loss of divisions actually made it easier.

Kelly’s thoughts. (FYI ND AD told him he wasn’t getting another pay raise):

1) SEC only conference to get multiple teams in 4 team. LSU just won w O. How cant he?!? (napoleon complex)
2) easier to recruit/better facilities/invested Booster NIL $$ w no strings like at ND
3) Saban was retiring soon. beat bama and youre in the SEC title game and a playoff invite. even more the case w expansion.
4) ND’s schedule got much harder in 2022
5) QB room was a mess at ND

just some thoughts

Did you even read the quotes you 'responded' to?

At what point do the initial conditions CBK inherited become irrelevant to the performance on the field? You tell us.

I think it’s true. It’s different interacting with a bunch of crazy southern dummies who can’t score a 16 on the ACT than it is at Notre Dame.

Starting to think there may have been a little more to the “not a cultural fit” talk we heard when BK came to LSU.

FSU and USC suck. Play them enough and you'll win regularly. We just caught both teams when they happened to be good.

USC hasn't finished in the top 10 since 2016. They're 23-16 the last three years. Last season their defense was ranked #122. The year before #102. To say that they're now suddenly good after one game would require a huge improvement on defense. They were a little better in that they only gave up 20 pts. but still over 400 yds.

We didn't have proper NIL at the time and everyone thought we would fall behind other schools.

Nobody knew then that Saban would retire. That said again this means the path got easier not harder.

Hell of a way to talk about our players, but I can't imagine many players in general are exactly Rhodes scholars.

Source: An ND insider. Bryan Driscoll. He is why I was able to tell ya’ll that Meadows was coming to LSU a week before he announced and why. BK has been trying to leave ND at various time since after 2012. when the nfl wasnt interested he started to coast. recruiting tanked. look at the drop off after 2013.

that is what BK said why he was leaving. easier to recruit, better facilities (you have a chef and kitchen in your facility lol.) perhaps he wasnt aware of your NIL reality while he was signing $100MM deal. at Nd NIL has strings. like grades and charity work, just fyi. (hopefully getting a little looser rules.)

i mean saban is 100 and has said how much he hates the portal, etc. and georgia taking the crown… it wasnt guaranteed but something to consider for him imo. and i agree, in his head going to the SEC was an easier path. not that i necessarily agree.

USC lost 10 scholarships per year for 3 years and was limited to 75 players during 3 years also during that stretch. Courtesy of Paul Dee and the NCAA..
