You know what it is? They're still bent over the game down there in '79 and that in 2003 a number of the final polls had USC #1 including AP even after LSU won the BCS NC Game. The coaches were contractually bound to vote the winner of the game #1. Three coaches defected and voted USC #1. They were #1 in BOTH polls before the bowl games. The BCS model was a joke. It weighted 50% to a computer coefficient and only 50% to both polls.. It was so bad the made a bunch of changes the next year.LSU was fortunate they got to play Oklahoma in the BCS and not USC.

Not sure but I do know that they're a bunch of douches and LSU is gonna drop the fricking hammer!

That aged well.
LSU, Mich., Wisconsin, Penn St., Ore, ND.
Yeah kind of weak without Nicholls and South Alabama
USC lost 10 scholarships per year for 3 years and was limited to 75 players during 3 years also during that stretch. Courtesy of Paul Dee and the NCAA..

FSU and USC suck. Play them enough and you'll win regularly. We just caught both teams when they happened to be good.

USC hasn't finished in the top 10 since 2016. They're 23-16 the last three years. Last season their defense was ranked #122. The year before #102. To say that they're now suddenly good after one game would require a huge improvement on defense. They were a little better in that they only gave up 20 pts. but still over 400 yds.
The ball was not 'rolling around on the ground.' He had his arm under it the entire time. The rule is specific to this point. Slight movement of the ball or contact with the ground is okay as long as control is maintained
No it was a split crew Pac-10/sec. USC still had to go down and score.
Except he admitted he btushed his facemask enough to cause his head to turn.
I think USC still had to go down and score. They didn't just put 7 pts. on the board after the penalty. It was within the rules for LSU to stop them from scoring.
I remember that game. It was at Alabama. USC won 24-14 I think. But physically the game wasn't even close. Alabama made a ton of mistakes. I think C. White had close to 200 yds.
The one game USC lost that year was at Arizona St. 20-6 or 20-7. That week they lost their starting center. Then during the game they lost their backup center. So now they're on their emergency center who was a converted defensive lineman. They fumbled away 3-4 snaps and dropped some others that McDonald just had to fall on. The offense was out of sink and they played terrible. But that was the one loss. ASU was good and that was a tough place to play back then.
He said he brushed his facemask. It was enough to cause McDonald's head to move slightly. That's what the ref saw. McDonald said it was fortunate and he was surprised they called it. But it wasn't totally like he didn't touch him.
“It’s not like I held on and his head got jerked to the ground,” Thibodeaux said. “It was going to be fourth down. I was sitting there in stunned silence as to what was going to happen. We had a great opportunity to close out the game perhaps. There was a feeling, ‘Oh, they’re going to do this to us.’ We could have still won the game. It was like, ‘Damn, let’s keep playing’.”
