Apparently the umpire originally called Beloso out before realizing the 1st baseman hadn't caught the ball. Chris Blair saw him give the signal and announced it as an out, then when he saw they got the call right asked "but why did he do that (call him out)?"

Doug Thompson's response was great:

"Cuz they're just school bus drivers and butchers."

I don't know if that's a common saying, but it made me laugh. If you go back and listen to the audio archive it's at about the 3:13:40 mark.

Doug was all over the home plate ump all game. The ump in notorious for not giving the pitchers the corners, specifically the outside corners. Apparantly he has some history with that guy from when Doug was playing here.

It’s funnier when Skip says, “during the day the guy is a hair dresser.”

But he’s the best hair dresser in town.

I’ve heard Chris make some Jim Hawthorne-like mistakes lately. I was at the game and never saw an out call

You people that criticize every single, tiny mistake that broadcasters make are so unbelievably petty. I bet y’all have no clue how hard that job really is.

Because they are jealous and only wish they could actually do the job instead of only in their head.

People that complain about shite like that and uniforms and shite are drama and fashion queens…
Or women…
Then you have the alters and you can count on them either being teenagers or old fat frickers in their momma’s basement…
This board is so f’d up…it would take a f’n rapture to clean it up…

I've only seen it mentioned, nothing harshly critical as you've pointed out.

Chris Blair has settled in to calling baseball games and I’d say baseball is probably his best sport. I enjoyed him last night. What I didn’t enjoy is how Doug Thompson has to inject with “c,mon” or “get out” or make a bunch of grunting noises in the middle of every play over Blair’s call.

There's some really weird good juju around Beloso right now. Even on an 0 for 4 night he helped spark the 2 out rally with his casual jog down 1B line and TN pitcher mishandling the ball for the easy out.

I'm not taking him out the lineup until there's a change

The ump made the safe call and then pointed to the first base bag for some reason.

And he made it safe on that play after completely missing the bag

I honestly wasn’t trying to criticize him at all. I was just saying it was most likely an error on his part. I love the way Chris calls games and the same goes for Jim when he called them.
