My main point is that there’s probably not another program in the SEC that would’ve kicked a Matheiu type player off their team
Disagree. Matheiu admitted to failing "10s of test" before LSU even suspended him man

I think they got confused because the NCAA does not tell schools which drugs they have to test for on in-house tests. But the NCAA definitely runs a thorough panel when they show up for testing.

I do think I remember signings something though that showed the ncaa did not test for recreational drugs during their year round testing.....

But it still said it was banned

Something like that

You actually read all that paperwork at the beginning of school meeting?

But he was recruited to play S, because that's what he's better at. Now he HAS to play corner because we whiffed on EVERYONE else. Because you move someone around doesn't suddenly make it right. The plan was never to have Joseph play CB here, it became an emergency solution to not signing anyone at CB.

Also, I tihnk you're still missing the point entirely.

We lost 4 guys at CB they knew about well in advance for recruiting, then lost a 5th (Still before NSD). Leading up to signing day, they were still PERFECTLY FINE and content that as long as Surtain signed, they didn't need anyone else at CB, despite the fact Goodrich wanted on board, including the week leading up to NSD. They told him to hold on.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out -4 + 1 still puts you way into the negative. -4 + 2 still quite a bit into the negative.

Cornerback was always a possibility for Joseph. See this article from January where he says he'll learn the CB position down the line.

As for the numbers, signing 2 CBs each year is pretty reasonable.

But I agree I thought there was something that said they didnt test for it during their yearly tests, just special occasions

This along with failing to address it by recruiting at least two corners last cycle is the definition of ineptitude.

Zero excuses. This is a black eye on the program.

What a shite show.

If this appeal is not granted I have zero faith left in "the system."
Hugh Freeze got a less severe punishment for basically breaking every rule in the book.
Infractions that are actually CRIMINAL are left up to the team, generally.
But this "unethical" violation warrants a two year suspension?
I don't think so. Freaking suck it NCAA.

shite yes!

I found it

An NCAA shift The NCAA does year-round drug testing, but it currently only tests for marijuana during bowl games in football and at the championship level for other Division I sports. If an athlete tests positive for marijuana, the person cannot participate in the bowl game or championship event and must sit out half of the ensuing season.

Yeah I was just googling some of that. When I took the test my true freshman yr I remember trainers telling me all they were testing for was steroids.

Maybe technically they can test for it but they don’t and just leave the recreational drug tests up to each institution.

I also just read where in the mid 2000’s the NCAA reduced the ban for a positive test resulting from weed from a yr to six months. So maybe this isn’t weed related. And now I’m even more confused. Haha

It's not weed. It's the tampering that carries a 2 year penalty.

Fulton might not have even known what drugs were being tested for--just knew that he had taken something (Adderall which the NCAA tests for, weed which they don't unless it's a bowl game, or something entirely different) and didn't want to risk failing.

It would be completely, comically LSU football for a player to be suspended for two years for tampering with his sample when he wouldn't have failed the test in the first place.

Sometimes even a dilute sample is considered tampering.

Nah, they dont even test for this in their annual testing programs apparently. So either Fulton was an idiot and didnt do his homework and tampered a test that would have been fine, or he was on the juice
