Oline is a huge concern. Lots of talented individuals.

Agreed, specifically game one. I don't think Clemson is the juggernaut many have made them out to be but there is enough talent on their d-line to give me concern with a o-line that has talent but has to learn to play together and for a couple of guys learn to play at this level for the first time.

I think by the end of the year our offensive line will be a good one. But game one concerns me. I feel very good about every other position group.

Thank Verge for scheduling our first game away at Clemson .

I'm in the minority I realize, but I have no issue with scheduling these games. I think it will make us better in the end. Ole Piss has had the laughably bad schedule most here want us to have the last 3 years and what inevitably happens to them every year is that when they have to play real competition they ain't ready....it's happened to them all 3 of those years.

Let's just frickin win one of these - then another and then we can start saying that's how we roll instead of I wish we'd not schedule tough games week one.

Plus I do thin eventually and soon they will start incentivizing scheduling better. No one wants to see Gramblings and Citadel's littered on every teams schedules each year.

Clemson run game is their QB. Blake/D have to contain/pressure him to make mistakes throwing early or off target.
If he gains 30-40yards that won’t be a good sign for the D!
Besides that the OL has to gel and learn to grind out those tough 2-3yards in the RZ. Last 2 years RZ runs the “inside hand off” has been terrible due to lack of OL push. You can’t run the same play 2x and lose yardage that’s how you get a ton of FG vs TDs!
JD5 runs doesn’t count as he outran everybody.

My issue is with HOW we are doing it. I don’t want Grambling either. You could:

1. Schedule programs like UNC, Minnesota, TCU, Texas Tech, etc. to come to Baton Rouge
2. Do a home and home with Clemson but demand they come to BR first
3. If you can’t do #2 then at least put a cupcake week 1 so the team can gel.

Three simple things that Verge can’t seem to grasp

I could work with you on a compromise like this Draco. I do like playing a tough game early to expose our weaknesses right off the bat and I think in the 12-team playoff age and likely to go up to 16 soon, that really won't be penalizing any more, but even in the past I think early season losses are forgiven more than late one's to quality teams.

The entire O-line got blown up today by the D-line based on everything I’ve heard and read.

It's the camp paradox.

Everyone wants to hear this position group or that position group is doing great. But when they do, they automatically assume the opposite position is awful.

Given what LSU returned/brought in along the DL (including DE) I'd be more concerned if the DL WASN'T performing well...at least at this early point of camp. That doesn't mean the OL will be great. It's just that I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

Obviously Baylor in a largely meaningless bowl game is a different animal than @ Clemson in a huge season opener. But vs. Baylor LSU had no Campell, Jones, or Dellinger. Fraizer was playing tackle. The OL performed well enough to help generate 420+ yards of offense and zero sacks.

Thompson just received an NFL draft grade and is included in the top 8 interior lineman in the draft; he must have some ability.

It’s easier for DL to shine in 11v11 without pads on.

Curne is the freak athlete. Maybe he should be at guard for now

I don’t understand all this bitching and moaning about the offensive line. Everybody was jumping up and down celebrating when we signed Moore and Thompson.

Hell the gripe for years has been that “We need dem corn fed Big Ten offensive linemen.” Well frick, we signed an All-Big Ten guard. What the frick’s the problem now? I say he’s earned the benefit of the doubt, but yeah, ranters still gonna rant and melt.
