if he is, that doesn't necessarily help us; in fact, it may hurt. former HC's don't often step back career wise and it doesn't appear theres anyplace for him (high enough up) at LSU. hell, it could spell disaster if the aggies hire him as Asst. HC.

Just rumor I heard.
He's 3-5 this year, bad loss to La Tech at home. Lost at Southern Miss this weekend in Hattiesburg. I heard the McKinley kid the DT from Mississippi who was a LSU commitment earlier was visiting.

Sullivan is retiring. That was the plan from the jump. And Juluke's contract is up in either January or March 2019. There is definitely going to be one spot opened on the staff, maybe 2.

He wouldn’t do it, but I would love to have him back with our program

Why has this meme persisted for a long time. Many had him penciled as the next head coach at LSU. He was a good assistant and won a few key recruiting battles defending his home turf. Pulling kids away from LSU if their home school is a top ten program is another thing.

If he is available and there is an opening where he might help no doubt they would offer him a spot. If LSU remains successful then there will be little damage one recruiter will inflict on behalf of another program. If LSU is not successful there will be a new coaching staff for which he may be considered.

In any event its time to end the Frank Wilson is a legend meme.

they have the worst total offense in D1 and one of the worst scoring averages at 17.4 ppg. granted their first 3 losses were vs P5 programs, but sheesh.

He's an excellent assistant and recruiter. He wouldn't be the first to fail as a head coach after being a good assistant. UTSA is a tough gig for anyone.

If he leaves UTSA, LSU would certainly find a spot for him and he could likely make more at LSU than he's making now.

He made some really good hires to build his first staff, but I don't think he's had much success replacing the guys that were poached away.

ETA: His OL coach from last year is the OL coach at BYU now. His DC from last year is on Alabama's staff. I think he had a few others hired away.

He had a lot of time as an assistant to build relationships and find GAs and interns that would make good assistants. Now, his first round of hires has been poached, it's hard to keep replacing guys when your school probably isn't paying all that well.

He made a bowl his first season and a winning record last season. If anybody's in trouble it's his OC.

Nice scenario would be Sullivan retiring (that is going to happen) and Robinson gets one of the NFL jobs he interviewed for last year and Wilson comes back as RB coach and his former DC Golding comes in as an OLB/DE coach. Obviously Aranda makes that call (see Busch) but I think we need a dedicated coach to those spots DE/OLB. Aranda has enough on his plate coordinating and focusing on the ILBs.
