Johnny Jones now head coach for Texas Southern beat Baylor in Waco yesterday in the season opener. Good for him. His time at LSU was not very good but he deserves some success and TSU Is a place he can do it with no expectations put on him.

why does he "deserve success?" Good coaches succeed; bad coaches don't. It's really quite simple. No one "deserves" anything - you get the result based on the level of your merit and effort.

Meanwhile, Ben Simmons is dominating the NBA and 3 other major contributors on that team have made NBA rosters, with Antonio Blakeney averaging 11 pts a game for the Bulls. That doesn't include Horsnby who was a perfect college shooting guard role player.

Truly the worst coaching job I have ever seen in major college basketball.

I'm glad to hear it, but I am surprised. Jones was horrible at coaching DEFENSE. Baylor must be pretty awful in scoring.

Johnny’s teams are almost better with no talent. He doesn’t do anything with talent when he has it.

He led a team with Charles carmouche as its best player to a .500 sec record.

Led a #1 pick and 3 nba player team to no postseason.

I'm glad for both Coach Jones and Texas Southern.

He'll do well, with far less talent than LSU has (due to its size, facilities and other physical advantages over TSU).

TSU was playing a larger opponent, which is different than the cupcake team that LSU played last night.

I expect big things from Coach Jones this year (taking into account the size and resources of TSU).

I also expect big things from LSU this year, but it is wait and see at this point. LSU needs to get through the easy, "give me" games first.

There's a modicum of truth to this. I can't remember who wrote the article, but Ben Simmons was the downfall of Coach Jones. Any coach can win with top talent. It takes a real coach to win with no talent, and I think Coach Jones has the skills to pull that off.

Coach Jones was a bad fit for LSU. A big school like LSU with a very vocal fan base needs a coach like Wade or Orgeron. The fans like the big talk. They like all the hype. That is simply not the style for Coach Jones. Also, TSU is a place where the black head coach fits in well.

He learned that from Dale Brown. I’m a Dale fan, but he could waste talent.

Yeah, this isn't the typical borderline NCAAT level squad we are accustomed to seeing from Baylor. I think they returned only 3 players that got minutes last season and no starters. Then they lost their starting flooring general to offseason hip surgery.

Sidenote: they start Louisiana natives Jared Butler and Mark Vital

Baylor isn't gonna be good this year. Those in basketball circles know this. Scott Drew is not a good coach either. Another in a long line of meaningless wins for Johnny Jones. He definitely fits better where there are no expectations.

We also like coaches who can make the tournament with multiple NBA prospects on their roster.

I’ll give you credit, you’re consistent.
