...I heard twice today, from different sources both of which are inside the fence at LSU, that Woodward and Mainieri have had The Talk and there was no particular argument between them.

One of them told me he hears it's McDonnell from Louisville as the top guy and the other one says it's Cliff Godwin.

I would imagine it's entirely too early to have much of a bead on who the replacement is but it looks very much like we're less than 20 games away from a new baseball coach at LSU.

I don't expect that would be much of a surprise to anybody, but I thought I would pass it along in any event.

Thanks Scott. Good info

Hoping it’s McDonnell. He’s had a strong admiration for the LSU program for a long time

Woodward does want him gone but it needs to be retirement. Paul has been complaining of his neck and is getting old. They want him to realize it’s time to go and for it to be smooth. Fingers crossed.

That's fine. I'd like for Paul to go out with a good finish to this season, though. Many want him to be laughed out of the building.

Has to be a package deal with Dunn. They can take it to the bar-b-que and share war stories

His tick is getting worse and worse, too. It won't go over well, but I feel bad for him. He just looks like a man declining physically, mentally, and emotionally. He doesn't enjoy it anymore.

But before we hire one of those guys let’s troll around our friends in SEC and make them all spend a little money and extend some contracts just for fun like Sexton does us in football

He doesn't deserve to be the head coach at lsu any longer. Paul needs to go enjoy his retirement and give it up. He's done.

Question for you amateur athletic directors? McDonnell is under contract through 2028 for 1.5 million a year. How can he change jobs without some kind of big buyout?

Don't tease us.....I pray this is true, for the sake of LSU fans and present players. They both deserve much much better.

I heard from a reliable source this week the same thing, BUT with Todd Walker as HC.

Regardless of the replacement, it seems the word is getting out of an imminent retirement announcement.

After the last few hires that Woodward has made, do you really think that he would hire a commentator to be the head coach?

I definitely do not disagree! I'm just saying what I was told by the source. I questioned the sanity of the concept almost immediately.

Like I said.... Regardless of the replacement, it seems we are on the cusp of what we all want.

Well, if this is the end of CPM's era I hope we have a nice run. That's been his trademark as much as anything going back to '08.

His record and results speak for themselves. We haven't won a championship going on 12 seasons. I appreciate him but won't be troubled when he's gone.

As for his replacement, consider that Kim Mulkey was an asst at LA Tech when Baylor hired her and Joe Brady was what some sort of analyst with the Saints?

I hope whoever's doing the hiring has enough baseball acumen to recognize brilliance even if young.
