If they gotta pay MM anyways then may as well keep him around. He can drive the golf cart behind the Pear on his daily mile jog while playing "Eye of the Tiger" on a speaker to motivate him. He could probably handle putting out the free shirts on the chairs in the PMAC for all the fans that WILL BE in attendance. May even be able to deliver the pizzas they buy for students waiting in line before big games for hours and hours to get in.

It sure as hell seemed like the entire coaching search was Kiffin or bust. And could you imagine the public outrage if LSU fired BK and got themselves on the hook for a $54M buyout and Kiffin said no and LSU ended up hiring a G5 coach who was unproven at the P4 level?
Not a chance LSU hadn't already been in communication with Kiffin's camp ahead of time and been told that Lane would be interested in coming here prior to LSU finalizing the decision to fire BK

In 3 of his 4 seasons, we've gone 3-15 or worse in conference. Not like we can really do much worse.
At least by leaving him flapping in the wind, we don't have the double whammy missing out on the replacement we wanted AND having to pay MM's buyout on top of that.
