re: For those who are older, was there a CWS LSU won with less talent than 2025 LSU?

2009 lineup was awesome. I think about that team a lot. I was 12 at the time, so it was the first CWS team that I watched and remembered.
I remember them all actually, but not in great detail from 30+ years ago. I was a teenager in 91, and a baseball junkie, but shite that was so long ago. I remember watching Ben McDonald pitch and Joey Belle at LSU.

Miami was a better team talent wise than us in 1996 too.
I agree. I remember our bullpen had absolutely sucked at times during the ‘96 season, especially at the sec tournament, which was mighty late to be stinking it up (knowing regionals were only a week away).

There are seven of them. The only one that is even debatable is 2023.

The 1997 team had the least amount of MLB talent. Brandon Larson was the only player from that team to make it to the show and that was likely only due to his first round draft pick contract.

If you had asked me to list who I thought would be the most impactful ML player from '09 team, at the time, DJ probably would not cracked top 5

Yeah I’ll take 1997 over anything. Nothing topping that lineup.

Don’t forget Tyler Hanover who played a huge role on that team and started most of the season at 3B Fun fact: He’s the LSU all-time leader in career sacrifice bunts
He also had an amazing fastball. This board has always been insane.

Exactly... kid or not it's just a question looking for some historical insight. If this isn't the place to ask this type of question what are we doing here.

Really? I was 11 in 2000 and vividly remember that championship. Although didn’t remember the season because back then they never televised college baseball during the season.

wasn't Derek Helenihi the third baseman in 2009? I remember a great diving stop by him and a rocket throw to first in the postseason at some point in 2009. Either the SEC tournament, or Omaha it feels like but I cant remember exactly when it happened.
After thinking back on it for 2 minutes

It is really hard to see who the best team is this year. It is wide open, no great stacked teams.
You probably have 20 teams that can make Omaha and 8-10 that can win it.

I don't see a Dylan Crews, Tommy White, Brayden Jobert, Gavin Dugas, or a Tre Morgan on this current team!

Don't get ahead of yourself there Skippy. Some of the teams that won it all were not as talented as some of the teams that lost.

The 1997 team had the least amount of MLB talent
Beloso and Raph rhymes both were clearly not MLB talent. But man oh man were they primed college players
1997 maybe didn’t have MLB talent but it was by far one of the most dangerous lineups in college baseball that year
From a “how are they dominating college perspective”, to me, this team seems lighter than other title teams.

Yeah, guys like Blair Barbier and Trey McClure were big time players at the college level but not big MLB prospects. I grew up with Trey and Todd McClure. Trey was probably the better all around athlete, but Todd had a 13 yr NFL career.

Kurt Ainsworth was on that team. I don't remember him contributing any that year though.
