First off- I am thrilled we have Kelly although I wasn't happy at first. I think he is a good fit at LSU and will do well.

2021- My coach hiring baraometer (Dec 2021)

Dream candidate- Fickell

Most realistic choice - Napier

Most interesting (off the wall choice)- Gundy

Disaster choice- Jimbo

Exactly what are the downvotes in reference to? UM goes to Bowling Green in 2001, takes over a 2-9 team with the 106th ranked offense and in his 1st year, they go 8-3 with the 24th ranked offense. The following year, they go 9-3 with the 3rd ranked offense. For reference, when he leaves Bowling Green, they go 11-3, 9-3, 6-5, and 4-8...notice a trend?

He then goes to Utah St. in 2003 and takes over a 5-6 team with the 89th ranked offense. UM's 1st year they go 10-2 with the 47th ranked offense. The following season they go undefeated with the 3rd ranked offense. He leaves and Wittingham goes 7-5 and 8-5.

2 BCS titles in 5 years at Florida. Goes to Ohio St. who was coming off a 6-7 season and proceeds to go undefeated with the 21st ranked offense. Of course sanctions imposed before he got there kept them from any post-season play. 2 years later, a national title with the 5th ranked offense. Again, for context, Meyers remaining seasons were as follows, 12-1. 11-2, 12-2, and 13-1.

I don't judge coaches too much off of what they do at programs full of talent. UM was great at UF and Ohio St. but look at Bowling Green and Utah. He looked elite even at those schools. Saban looked pretty average before coming to LSU. Mich. St. was 5-6 before hiring Saban. They then went 6-5-1, 6-6, 7-5, 6-6 and finally 9-2 under Saban as he left before their bowl game.

Saban was always a good coach but LSU made him as much as he made LSU.

I wanted Doug Pederson and would trade for hi today 10000000%. Although, I don't completely agree with the

It isn't fair to trash the hire if you can't present a better alternative
seeing as how Woodward makes $1.85 Million a year to have those answers, not me!

I hated the hire from jump and until he proves that he can win it all I'll continue to believe he can't. He's been a D1 HC for a long long time and hasn't proven that he can.

I didn't need LSU to hire a guy who has won a championship, just a guy that I believe has the potential to do so...BK has been around long enough to give me massive doubts about that potential!

Urban would’ve won a NC here without question but the program would also crash and burn again. Kelly had the best resume besides Urban and I think that what Scott wanted was Stability in the program. People saying Lanning have to realize LSU was not hiring a guy who Zero HC experience after the Ed O Fallout. Fickell would’ve been a solid choice but he’s shown no intention of leaving the Midwest his whole coaching career. Overall I’m glad Kelly id the coach and I’m giving him time to get his players in.
