re: For all those complaining about fan support at home games

We need a 80,000 seat stadium. It was way over expanded. Also LSU seems to go out of there way to inconvenience fans. I tried to swap parking lots with a friend for several years. LSU would never do it, even with signed letters from both of us. Total BS.
Posted on 10/23/22 at 8:24 pm to ABJ2000
Traffic should be no excuse. Back when TS held only 68,000, the road system around the stadium was nothing like it is now, no interstate, few to no 4 lanes in & around campus, parking areas were nowhere near as large, so bad traffic existed back then, too. Difference being no one complained back then, today people complain about everything. The administration has done a lot to kill the great vibes tailgating used to provide, but then, according to Tenn. fans I've talked to, as soon as they won their NC, all on campus parking was turned into paid parking only. Yet look at their home games this season. I'd say expense has a large role in it, but that has nothing to do with fans leaving at half time. That's been going on for at least 2 decades now & there are several generations of students, now alums, who are used toleaving early.

There is not a “stately oak” that doesn’t have tailgating under it. You must not have been to campus on a gameday in a long time.

This. I actively root against LSU because of it. I now regret graduating from there.

Just candy arse fair weather fans. I see the between the 20’s seats thin. You may have some solid points but for big games no. Putting up with minor inconvenience is a snow flake thing. To see a big game in person is unforgettable. But, it is the fans themselves that make Death Valley.
This is accurate. Die hard fans will get over the inconveniences pretty fast.

Any actual data on this or just your opinion?
I know people who don’t feel safe in New Orleans and that has impacted them not going to a Saints game.

People need to quit making excuses for not going to games. Yesterday was as much fun as almost any games in 2019 except Florida. Not every game is a blast but what is guaranteed in life? Quit acting like a pussy and go to the games or shut up about why you can’t fricking go. I have had 2 spinal fusion and degenerative disk disease and make it.
Boom. Well said. I live in PA and would love to have the opportunity to go games week after week. LSUs problem are the whiny fans.

The real issue is Louisiana. And I LOVE Louisiana. I get that if you are a born and raised Baton Rouge native you stay and attend the games. When season tickets were affordable it was easy.
The economics of college football have priced a lot of people out of the season ticket holder market. Many of us who didn't grow up in BR but are now economically able to afford TAF/seat license/season tix pkgs have emigrated to Houston/DFW/Nashville/etc. (ETA: I'm sure the Ticket Office has a list of Zip Codes that they mail Season Tix to. It would be greatly edifying to take a look at that data and see the geographic distribution of LSU season tix holders.) I graduated in 89 and have held on to my tix for nearly 30 years, but between family, work, other random conflicts it's hard to make it to BR more than 1-2 times per year. BR is not a major airline destination or cheap/easy hotel destination. A&M folks move to Houston/San Antonio/Waco/Austin/DFW/Corpus Christi/Galveston/Beaumont and none of them have trouble making it to campus. Little bit different driving to BR from Nashville!
When you were lucky to see the Tigers on ABC or CBS 4x per year there was more incentive to travel. Now I haven't missed watching a game in probably 10 years and haven't had to deal with any of the issues mentioned above. I used to be able to give my tix away that I wasn't able to use without sweating the financials too much. Now I get grief from the Boss if I don't try to recapture some our our "investment".
The places that y'all want to hold up as shining examples of fan support share a couple of advantages. They are all situated in places where you can make a decent life for your family without having to move 10 hours drive away, and/or there is really no other competition for your sports entertainment dollar. It will get worse before it gets better.

It was tucking hot. I was luckily not in the sun, but as big a fan as I am it would have been hard to stay in the upper section.

The reasons:
1)Quality TV experience readily available
2)Priority of tailgate over game
3)Expansion.
Under-rated post. When I was in school there in 80s we’d go play touch football games on Saturday morning somewhere on campus. Tailgating was pretty much what it sounds like. Other than the RV lots around the stadium, you’d have people with a hibachi cooking right behind the car. It just wasn’t what it is now.
Now people come and, if they aren’t die hard, by halftime they are wiped out and head home. Hell, when my kids were little I’d drive down, arrive for kickoff, watch game , and come home. Ask anyone now if they’d do that. I bet you get less than 10% of ticket holders who’d do it. If it’s just the game, they’ll watch on TV. The game isn’t why they come. That wasn’t possible long ago.
Also, expansion hurts.
75k fans was a packed and rocking house back in the day. Now it’s > 25% empty.

Call me a ticket snob, but I would never sit in the uppers for any regular season sports game, even if the tickets are free. I think a lot of people feel the same way.
Tailgating is absolutely bigger than the game. A ton of people of all ages use game days as a reason to party hard on campus.
Expansion. If they renovated the whole stadium to have bigger chairs with chair backs and the capacity dropped to 80,000, then so be it. Kinda goes back to my first point, no one wants to sit way in the uppers.
Edit to say my season tickets are in 410.

That doesn't even make sense. I have no idea what you are talking about. I posted positive counterpoints to the OP. How do you get someone is not taking responsibility for or I am blaming the other guy? Who have I blamed?
I really don't care if the whiney bitches don't want to come to the games. I go because I enjoy going, I enjoy tailgating and I enjoy the fans we tailgate with and the fans we sit with.
I have acknowledged the traffic issues many times on here. I also know the crime in BR is awful and we don't stay in BR overnight. We go to the games and stay in Denham Springs.
A lot of fans on here are just whiney bitches who look for problems and attack anyone who can provide a counterpoint. If you don't want to go to the games, stay home. You can watch every game on TV. If you choose that, then don't come on here complaining about the atmosphere or the lack on tailgating. The game day experience is exactly what we make of it, not LSU. LSU's job is to give us a quality coaching staff and a good football product. If the team wins, everyone has a good time. Yesterday was great, I did here about the possible scamming at one of the concession stands and that needs to be corrected immediately

I may be old school but we got our reputation by keeping it real and organic.
Greed and trying to be like the new flashy toy, has crept in to every aspect of game day.
Tailgating rules and regulations
Parking fees rules and regulations
No Mike but firecrackers
Piped in music and PA announcer over the band
No incentive for legacy season ticket holders
Banning popular band songs
So many thefts - no more post game tailgating
Sure traffic but it’s always been bad
It’s nuts

I’ll tell you why I gave up 4 season tickets 15 years ago. The PA announcer won’t shut up !!! It’s a constant commercial and drive me nuts. I’ll never go again until they get rid if the commercials. So never. Keep my money, use it for great outdoor kitchen, tv, bar, bbq, friends , bar. LSU chose this and there’s no going back. SHUT UP and let the band play !!!

Love my upper west tickets on the 45. Have had them for years and don’t wish to charge. You can see every play develop and there’s a nice breeze all the time. To each his own.

LSU has priced out any blue collar fans
And yet you were there. And many others who are “blue collar” as well. It’s a lame excuse. And tired. Those blue collar guys you think want to go to the game are watching at home on their big screen or at the camp. They don’t want to sit in traffic either.
Corporate ticket holders aren’t the boogeyman you want them to be. They give more money to the program then Joe Sixpack ever will and Joe is just as likely to stay home or leave early as those corporate guests. TS needs a massive upgrade before the crowds put up with all the things they endure to attend a
Game.

In a nutshell , it's called decline. It's almost everywhere you look. BR is not alone. It's happening to most southern cities-Shreveport , Jackson, Memphis ,the list is long.

I went to 3-4 games a season from the time I was 5 years old to the time I left Louisiana when I was 24. Since then I attempt to make 1 home game a year. I am 29.
After Tennessee, not sure I’ll go back. Reasons why:
It is an absolute nightmare to get out of Baton Rouge after the game
Concessions are ridiculously overpriced. Sat in the NEZ and got a beer, and burger and fries. shite was $27. Why am I paying gourmet restaurant prices for that shite food?
People are just soft now a days. Starts with the product on the field with the targeting BS and it bleeds into the stands. People sitting for most the game buried into their Iphone. When I was a kid, I remember drinks flying, people cussing, the place actually used to be scary for visiting teams
LSU does everything possible to suck the fun out of the gameday atmosphere. No Neck, tailgating rules, etc
The seats are too close together. Louisiana has a bunch of fat fricks. I always end up next to some fat frick spilling over into my seat.
