For all the couch-coaches who say we should not have pitched to Mendoza ...

As usual, the ranters know about 2% of actual baseball knowledge and rant about Mainieri without even checking the #s.

The guy after him, Martin has a better batting average. In fact Martin at .338 is their best hitter for average. Mendoza at .318 is third. Power makes no difference here - any base hit ends the game. Average mattered here.

Mendoza is a swing for the fence or swing and miss guy. He slugs, but is actually an easier out than Martin

Mendoza has 68 strikeouts in 208 at bats. Martin has 51 in 201. You have a pitcher throwing strike-out pitches.

The right choice is to pitch to Mendoza.

All you couch-coaches hear the announcers say Mendoza is "their best hitter" and you rely on that without even looking at the facts.

I'm not agreeing with every call Mainieri made (LHPs, Hal Hughes, etc.), but that one was correct given the situation at the time.

Agree. Fontenot was pitching his arse off...no point in walking Mendoza just to get to the guy behind him. It’s not like Martin was batting .180.

Yes, you know better than everyone else and the TV announcer who played pro ball.

GFY.

I'm pissed at another sorry-hitting LSU team, that's my soap box for this super region; but I don't like your post either, so shut the f*ck up.

Martin batting 250 in the postseason. Mendoza over 400. We can do this all night. It was a bad decision.

The right choice is not letting their best guy beat you when his run means nothing.

Wth are you on about?

Even if the other guy has a higher average, you put the defense in better position by having a force at any base. If for nothing else I walk him with two outs to set my defense up much better.

So your strategy would have lost the game too. Congratulations

Guy got a hit which won the game. It was the wrong decision.

Give me .20 to have a force at 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

OK, then why pitch to him with Devin?

Kid had already gone at least 1 inning too long.

Walk both. Trust your catcher to catch the ball.

Done.
