Straight out of Ed Orgeron’s secret playbook. Our secret weapon for Omaha. Grant Fontenot.

No walks. We need a guy that will come in late and throw strikes like that.

Can’t believe we saved Evans & Fontenot for a blowout and let Jones & Frey in the lineup. For fricks sake what is Jay doing

He pitched 1 inning. He needs to get some work some time.

Edited to add. I agree though that we could have used him some on Thursday.

He’s probably a guy that deserves more innings than he got. Jay is a lot smarter at baseball than me but the loyalty to pitchers is one thing that bothers me. Hellmers last year deserved way more innings. Last game of his career and like oh he good.

The 2 previous times he’s come up, it’s been to close innings that others fricked around and couldn’t. After the way he looked last night getting the 9th to himself (in control and throwing competitive pitches), he should pass up Rizy and Schmidt as someone who can come in to get you out of an inning or close a game.

As for the 1 inning, that’s usually all you need from a stopper or closer. If that’s what Fontenot is good at, give him the role when Evans is starting or already spent.

Fontenot got an inning or two earlier in the season, and was not at all effective. I want to say he was hovering around the bottom of the stat sheet. Since he’s started getting a few SEC appearances, he’s really turned it around. Makes you think that he’s been working on something over the course of the season.
