One reason I hate it, is because a great rivalry between Florida and Auburn was lost. That game has had 80 meetings, with a 42-38 record in favor of Auburn. It was a great yearly battle.

i totally agree with you JPLSU1981

Well, until now it never has really mattered as Ole Miss sucked anyway. But now that they're back to being competitive
Negative, if they don't win this year it will be another 6-7 years before they can win again.

I like the LSU game every year and think it has helped both teams. I vote not to change it. I never know who's going to win. There have been some great games since the mid 90's.
The 2 schools have won 4 of the last 6 MNCC so it certainly hasn't hurt either school. Don't fix what isn't broken. Thinking that padding your schedule will help your program is a myth.

It would truly be a sad day for college football if UT-Bama and AU-UGA didnt meet every year.
Oklahoma-Nebraska went by the wayside when the Big 12 was formed from the Big 8 and the remnants of the SWC. College football survived and is doing just fine.
Both of the rivalries you noted are great traditions in college football and particularly in the SEC. However, it's not like they wouldn't play 2 of every 4 years with a potential of SECCG meetings.
That being said, I like playing Florida every year.

i think the permamnent opponet thing is a total joke. Besides the fact that is grossly unfair, with the current system you can play for 4 years and not even see every SEC stadium. that's a shame.
fun fact: LSU never played against Peyton Manning, did we? just seems terrible that he never got to experience tiger stadium, and that Tiger fans never got to watch him play.

no, it wouldn't.
Most of the country has no clue about the UT-Bama or AU-UGA rivalry. it's not a big nationally known thing like the red river shootout, or even the Iron Bowl.
The rest of the conference shouldn't have to play a silly scheduling system b/c the inbred gumps at the league office bow to the sense of self importance in gumpland and knoxville concerning the UT-bama game.

Basically I agree with the original post. It is not a level playing field when some get kentucky or vandy every year. Rotation is better. But the truth is ever year some will get the easier road and others the hard road. So it is still unfair if you rotate just spreads the screwing around.
Ideally we should drop two schools and play every team in the conference every year. Split conf. is stupid and gay and for some stupid reason it seems to be all the rage around the country right now.
It is stupid to even call the SEC east and west one conference they way it is set up right now. More like sister conferences.
Drop Vandy and either USC or Ark. or all three.

But the scalpers would suffer if LSU played Kentucky this year instead of Florida.
But the athletic director wouldn't sell the stadium out as fast if LSU played Kentucky this year instead of Florida.
But the LSU tiger fans would be able to travel to the SECCG if LSU played Kentucky this year instead of Florida.
The fans get the shaft, and the scalpers and athletic director are content.

I agree to. I agree that we should unite and beat the shite out UT and lame-duck kiffen.

Florida did not win every meeting from '88-'01. outside of that good post and good idea relative to making it "fair" for the rest of the conference but i personally do not mind playing florida every year. as it was mentioned its just a great game for both schools.

I disagree... while it is to the disadvantage of the team that loses the matchup (of the two programs that have been best this decade)... it's the fairest solution for the conference as a whole. And it greatly helps the team that wins the head to head.
It is already possible for random matchups to be disproportionately unfair (easy or hard from the other division)... the SEC has lowered the likelihood of this happening by matching up (accidentally or not) the teams from opposite divisions with a permanent opponent of the same general quality
lsu-florida
bama-tenn
auburn-uga
arky-usc
ole miss-vandy
miss state-ky
are probably the fairest opp division opponents anyone could ask for... does it seem fair to lsu or florida they always play each other? Yes, because the other five teams in their own division also have to play a team of that caliber every year

sounds like socialism.

SEC Divisional titles should be determined by the best won/loss record within the division with the first tie-breaker being the head-to-head contest.
That would preserve any traditional inter-divisional games and make it fair for all.

How in the hell do the fans get the shaft by getting to watch two great teams like Florida and LSU go at it? That's what college football is about. And lets face it, teams come and go. Florida wasn't bitching about having to play LSU during the Dinardo years. Hell, I haven't really seen more than a handful of Florida fans complaining now. Back when Alabama and Tennessee were the dominant teams in the conference for decades they never complained about playing every year. Its an opportunity, quit whining.

The 12 team two conference scenario is unfair. The power conferces need to drop 2 and go to a round robin to have a more valid champion.
