Damn, I didn't know about the booze law. I'm going to have to read up on it so I don't get my booze stolen (+21)

Is there a spot where LSU fans tend to set up shop and congregate to?

The problem with the Grove is that they hype it up way too much. When you get there you'll probally be expecting more than what it is. I've also always thought the campus was underwelming, I expected more. However, the concept of the Grove is cool

I think that's also why I was underwhelmed. So so much hype that it couldn't live up to, but the hype comes from their fans and they enjoy it. If I hadn't had the LSU experience, it would probably be the greatest thing since sliced bread to me, too.

I think it's an experience people should have and check off the bucket list.

Agree that the stadium isn't so great and it looks more like a junior college stadium, but the school is smaller so a huge stadium might never be filled. I would call it an "intimate stadium". I didn't really feel like I was at a college game, though. It was strange.

Grove is alright, it just gets super packed. I'd rather our tailgating, but whatever.

Yes, they have hot girls.

Can someone clarify: I can walk around with a bottle of whiskey around the Grove, just not a beer? Correct?

I wouldnt walk around with anything. Keep everything hidden. I've seen them make 50 year old men pour out a case of beer, along with all their hard liquor. They were super pissed, but what are you gonna do?

You can walk around with anything you want as long as it's in a cup. And yes you can technically walk around with a bottle of liquor but not beer. Just keep beer in a cooler and pour it straight into a cup. It makes them smoother to drink anyway and I have grown to prefer them out of a cup.

I've grown to prefer living in a place that successfully emerged from Prohibition.

The Grove is terrible. If you enjoy cold food, no music and men comparing outfits, you're in for a great time. Otherwise, I'd take Starkvegas every day of the week...their fans aren't under the impression that their hilariously bad academic and athletic programs are "classy."

Be careful of the Cobra Security. Drink out of cups and pour discreetly. Keep your ice chest closed. Other than that, it's OK. I don't care for Ole Miss fans but you can still have fun there. The Grove is crowded but they have a good tradition of the band coming there and playing some Dixie. That's about it. One way in and one way out so prepare for traffic.

No cans or bottled beer. People bring them, but pour them into plastic cups. Mixed drinks are not an issue. A whole lot of hyperbole in this thread.

I don't know that LSU is in any position to call State or Ole Miss hilariously bad academically.

State's engineering schools and wildlife biology are quite stellar from my understanding.

Ole Miss has nothing to brag about, but I think their honor's college is fairly well respected relative to other similar schools.

This will be my first time going to Oxford, and I pity my gf's ears, as I'm pretty good at bitching up a storm...just ask many convenience store clerks in Dallas, with their shitty booze laws. From what's been described to me by friends and this board, the entire Ole Miss campus is lousy with dozens of Sheriff Buford T. Justices, all looking to get their rocks off by squashing any kind of fun. Add in the descriptions of how cramped everything is, man...it makes me want to pack up and move to to Oxford...

yes we are. We are ranked. They are not. I have the newspaper clipping on my cube for all the ole miss/state graduates to see.

You may be right...but I'd like to see a link to prove it.

The Grove was the most grotesque disappointment of my entire career as a traveling LSU fan. Many of the fans don't even erect their own tailgates. It appears to be done by third party contractors in advance of gameday. The place was a ghost town of unoccupied folding chairs, empty white tents, unwatched TVs, and effeminate floral centerpices until a few hours before kickoff. My LSU friends and I commandeered some of the derelict tailgates. No one said a word.

Now, the women of Oxford were anything but a disappointment. The single most beautiful southern belle I have ever laid eyes on was a bartender at a small dive behind The Library. Overall, they have the second best road beauties in the SEC, just behind UGA.

I really don't know what y'all are hating the Ole Miss tailgate scene. It's unique and it's fun, it's a little crowded and some of them take themselves too seriously. But it's a really good time

i still have a good time there but it's just not my cup of tea. it's the self-proclaimed "best tailgating/party school" title that makes me cringe.
