Rewatching the game and on that long TD pass to Chase, Marshall had beaten his man easily on the opposite side of the field and Joe had a TD on either option. Clemson brought both safeties up and left their corners on an island.

I have no clue why Clemson thought they could guard our WR's 1 v 1 without safety help. Struck me as strange.

There was simply no good option for stopping our 2019 offense. Any possible defense was going to be damned if they do damned if they don't, no matter the choice.

I'm assuming they thought that the pressure they would bring would cause those long routes to be irrelevant.

What they failed to realize was Joe was seriously an NFL QB playing in college.

Because they were used to ACC competition.

With Chase and Marshall. Plus Gilbert and Palmer and Bouttee. No defense is going to be able to,handle LSU offense in 2020.

Leaving Chase 1 on 1 was certainly a choice.

Venables had one plan and couldn't switch it up. And the plan was reckless as hell.

What are the other options? Send more guys into coverage? They played it the best way possible to me. Hands on man in press coverage and send exotic looks to try and get home.

In their defense- AJ Terrell was suppose to be a first round talent that dominanted vs Alabama last year. Fact of the matter is that no one was gonna stop us.

No one. I liked their approach but if Chase doesn’t drop that pass in the 3rd and we don’t take a knee we still hang 56 on them.

Without an NFL dline and nfl corners no one was going to stop us

If I were Clemson I would have probably done the same thing.

Their only hope of slowing down Burrow was to get pressure. Force some bad throws, get his timing off and trust your corners to be physical enough.

It worked for a while but eventually we adjusted.

I saw Marshall open before Chase. It was a short throw to Chade , though.

The only way to stop the LSU offense this year was to tackle Burrow before he threw the ball. If you brought pressure someone was going to be one on one and WR/RB's weren't losing those battles. If they dropped Burrow just stood there until someone was open it wasn't possible to continuously cover everyone.

Venables messed up thinking they could go man to man with our WRs.

Venables lives and dies by that. It worked 29 straight times.

Too cocky. But also they didn’t want to change their entire system.

Clemson decided early they were going to press and let those corners play physical and hold and make the officials call it. They got by with holding for most of the game. Eventually, the WR's just outclassed them and beat them anyway.
