I’m finding conflicting info online. Was it ever found that Wade paid a player at LSU? I seem to recall the allegations against Smart were never confirmed true, Smart was cleared. I know the VCU player’s girlfriend was paid. Any help?

Because the "strong arse offer" wasn't about Smart.

To my recollection the only person paid was the girlfriend. All they had on Smart was "strong arse offer" which could mean anything.

Who was the SAO related to? I’m arguing with someone who says it found players at LSU were paid. I remember rumors Naz Reid was paid $300k, but don’t remember that being a finding of fact.

I believe a kid that didn't end up at LSU.

It was either about an assistant coach or a player that was out of eligibility.

The larger context of the conversation kept getting whittled down in all the articles because it didn't fit Pat Forde's narrative that the only way Smart would choose LSU over Kentucky was if we paid more.

And his narrative may have actually been true, but he had zero proof so he tried to manufacture it at the request of John Calipari.

Woodard caved under pressure. The national media was on a witch hunt. Got fired and four years later got hired back. And guess what, national media still hates him. Might as well kept him the first time. Unless he pulls some kids out of a burning house, nothing changes. But some other story in sports will come, and it will die down.

Wade refers to "this smart thing" ... then the tweet about it had "this Smart thing" making it out to be that it was about Javonte Smart. Maybe it was, but as you say, that isn't exactly proof that he was talking about a person.

He received a 10 game suspension because they had mountains of evidence against him

This is the crap I’m getting just in relation to whether Wade is a “good” coach, not great, just good:

“LSU was forced by the NCAA to suspend Wade twice, including the year the team won the SEC, and for rampant violations that not only included secret payments but also deceitful efforts to hide them from investigators. He produced good results while cheating.

Wade’s only other year in a power conference was this past season. NCState was picked to finish 4th.

Two of the three teams picked ahead of them lost their star players to injury (Wilson/UNC; Brown/Louisville).

They finished tied for 7th and lost in the First Four.”

Under no standard is Wade not a good coach. It’s insane to even argue the point with a dumbass like this.

You’re going to get so many made up answers it’s not worth it.

The short answer is no, Wade was never proven to pay any player anywhere. However, there is proof he was being extorted by the VCU players ex-girlfriend, take of that what you will.

He was almost certainly paying players, however, highly unlikely from his own or wife’s checking accounts.

See what I mean?

He received a 10 game suspension and show cause because the IARP couldn’t really tag him on anything, so they resorted to mostly lack of cooperation findings.

Yeah, I’m not naive enough to think money didn’t make it into hands, I’m trying to determine whether it was put in an NCAA document that it was found X player at LSU received $. I think my original answer of “no” is correct. Thanks all for the feedback.

If I remember the NOA hit

The Wifes Bank acct
Meeting with Trendon watford outside of the allotted time
Paying Naz reid
Paying Javonte smart
The phone call with the FSU kid

The bank account wasn't to a player, it was the former GF of a VCU player. Apparently there is a lot to this story about the VCU guy getting in a car wreck or something.

Watford and his family denied number 2 ever happened (As of course they would)

Then they never found the dollar amounts to Naz or Javonte

That is a resounding no.

And to your question as to the quality of his coaching - also considering his age at each stop - my measuring stick is how was the program doing before he was hired and how are they doing after he left.

VCU has been a consistently good program pre and post Wade.

LSU was bad the couple years prior to Wade and horrendous post Wade.

McNeese was a laughingstock stock program pre Wade, but maintained success this past season post Wade.

NCSU was really bad the season pre Wade and wanted to fire their coach the year prior, but they went on a miracle ACCT and NCAAT Final Four run, which bought their coach a extra season before fired, post Wade TBD.

To this date the NCAA has not proven a single violation committed by Wase as LSU basketball coach. The payment from his wife's checkbook involved a player at another school .

Javonte’s case was literally soloed out by the NCAA after the articles came out and cleared by the NCAA and continued to play for LSU.

To the ex-girlfriend of a former VCU player. Some idiots want to claim Wade is some criminal, but paying players isn’t a crime. However, being extorted is a crime, yet, that doesn’t seem to bother the high and mighty anti-crime sky screamers.

Anyway, I’ve posted enough, this shite has been hashed out to beating a thousand dead horses. People are going to believe and post whatever they want to, regardless of truth, merit or anything else.
