Not his best effort, but he's a hell of a warrior for sure! If only he could use those legs once in a while when a hole opens up, it would add another dimension to his game.

Oline gave him time all night.

They gave him time on the TD pass to Anderson where he made an absolutely perfect pass, they gave him time on the OT TD pass as well. Just watch the highlights on YT and see where he was flushed from the pocket all night.

It was great to see him finish strong despite the early struggles!!

Credit to the O Line as well. Seldom was Nuss really pressured despite the commentators talking up their blitzes.

If only we can learn to run block and gain yards on first down!!

The way I saw it was he just had an off night and then made some great plays at the end. If he and our WR's can play with more consistency we will be pretty tough to beat.

It’s almost always a collection of things that cause it. Nothing was open on schedule most of the time, OM was dropping 7 in coverage most of the game. We had one on ones where guys just didn’t make plays, we had drops, we had chunk plays negated by penalties, we had a long play where they tackled the WR to prevent it. Nuss missed a handful of throws and made 2 incredibly stupid decisions but he was kind of doing it alone for big chunks of the game and the playcalling was dogshit as usual. But the greats overcome that and win, he’s not a great yet but it’s a landmark victory for him and more importantly the team.

He really just had a bad game in my eyes. He is missing daniels, everyone was dropping balls, and his accuracy was a hair off. Just a storm of issues.

What's funny is people don't look back at Burrow in 2018, having multiple games below 50% completion with a lot less touchdowns.

I agree. I was pissed at him most of the 1st half. He’s a gamer though and stepped up when it counted most.

We used to bitch about our QBs not taking shots down field... honestly, they weren't all great but at least they were letting him sling it. Definitely felt better than Les Miles 2 yards and a cloud of dust... or bubble screens x infinitey.

I agree that many things contributed to the lack of success early on. But I didn’t think there were tons of drops. There were a couple of drops, but there were many 50:50 balls that our guys didn’t come down with. Some of those were 50:50 because of Nuss. He was just playing poorly: inaccurate, poor mechanics making his ball sail, and iffy decisions.

But you gotta give him credit. He hung in there, didn’t get down on himself, and made big plays when the game was on the line. He didn’t do that against USC. Sorta reminds me of the Auburn game in 2018. Burrow didn’t play particularly well for much of that game, but he made some clutch plays at the end.

Maybe this will give Nuss some confidence going forward.

Same here. He was definitely rattled in this game and was "off."

Good on him for getting it together when it mattered most, and the receivers making critical catches.
Great team effort overall.

didn't he literally lead us down the field to score and tie the game up at the end of the game before we let them drive the field quickly, and win? I really can't remember exactly.

1:49 in the 4th -- pass play to Taylor -- that's #4 Suntarine Perkins that Nussmeier eluded to make that pass.
That's really good ability to extend a play. There are opportunities to do that more often. For example, on that deep interception in the 4th, there was plenty of space to roll and extend if the receivers are cognizant for an extended comeback play.
There are opportunities to run for positive yards too. Get what's available, then get down or out of bounds. It's just not something he has done much in games to develop a good feel for it yet.

Not the best statistical game overall, but it got really good late in the game.
A lot of high-level ability. It takes time to put it all together.

On that drive…
1st and 10 at USC 16 with 2:34 left. Down by 3. Incompletions on 2nd and 3rd and 8, including terrible throw to Anderson. Settled for field goal. He wasn’t awful. And he wasn’t why we lost. But an example of him not making a play when he could have. In contrast, last night threw TDs on last two possessions.

It’s frustrating because he has the ability to be a great qb if he gets out of his own head.

Amazing expectations for a QB starting his 7th game.
To whom would you compare him?

Had a few bad decisions, needs to take off running more, but he also dropped some absolute dimes that his WR dropped! I also think running up middle on 2nd down after an incomplete bomb put him in way too many 3rd and long situations. In other words he did well, we won, and everyone has room to get better. Sky is the limit.

"Gets out of his own head"? I don't see that as his problem. I just see a gunslinger. When did anyone ever consider Bret Favre cool, calm & collected? no, not comparing the two but I do see a mentality resemblance.

He has to learn to run it sometimes.

His WR had some bad drops on well thrown balls.

He’s not really a gunslinger tho. He is slow to process and his throws down field are so safe to the point that they are usually not catchable for the WR
