quote:You are confusing the randomness of a single elimination tournament with the definition of parity. Baseball is the same in that on almost any given day a team ranked 70-100 in RPI can beat a top 10 RPI team. But baseball has the better post season where double elimination exists in 4 separate rounds with the second and final being 3 game series between just two teams. If basketball did the same, the blue bloods would have even more championships amongst them.
There is more parity in college basketball and it isn't even close.

The error of your argument is that NOBODY 30 feet outside of BR gives a flying fLuck about college baseball. There is a big 2, not a big 3.
Have you seen the crowds at Arkansas, Ole Miss, Miss St, etc over the recent years? It’s not like LSU or any of these places are having full arenas for many basketball games either.
Obviously nationally college basketball is a much bigger sport but the CWS in Omaha is still a huge event.
At the end of the day it’s still the question of would you rather have a national championship or have a really good year and I’d choose a national championship every day

Why do threads always turn in a pissing match between basketball and baseball?
I’d pick baseball. I don’t think anyone is stupid that picks basketball. It’s their opinion and I respect that. Someone always has to bring in that the rest of the country doesn’t care about baseball. Well, I’m not the rest of the country.

Breaking this down into the subjective and objective arguments makes the answer easy.
If its subjective, there is no right answer. You can obviously do both. Unfortunately, because of basketball being more successful in 80s and some asshat named Smoke, this has never been the case. Really, your preference is yours alone.
Now for the objective, its easily the final four. I would give up all our baseball championships to have gone to 5-6 final fours in the span of 10 years. In the year basketball preforms, it easily nets a high profit for the ath. dept. It also garners high notoriety for both athletics and the school in general. How many people know who Sister Jean is because of the NCAAT and the run to the final four. In a similar light, if baseball was as popular, something like the rally opossum story would have been talked about nationally also. But it was mainly relegated to the fans of college baseball and the university.
In summary, no one is an idiot for liking baseball over basketball or vice versa, and the choices aren't mutually exclusive. Basketball however is the more advantageous of the two sports when it comes to revenue and the schools image. That isn't really a debate.

I prefer championships.
How far down the line of irrelevant sports does that go? Would you rather a women’s BB championship over a men’s final 4? A Gymnastics championship? Swimming and diving?

I’d trade 5 of the six baseball championships for one basketball championship.

ou think there is more parity in college basketball than baseball? Seriously?
There certainly is more universal investment in basketball which is the biggest factor leading to parity.
Major conferences such as the big ten and big east essentially ignore baseball whereas they invest millions upon millions into coaches and facilities.
For every small school that is good and invests in baseball there is at minimum an equivalent in basketball and likely they invest more money rather than the same.
For comparison. Loyola Chicago pays their coach who went on a final four run over $1 million. Northern Iowa pays their coach $900,000.
Gary Gilmore of coastal Carolina won a national championship and makes $402k
It’s much more difficult to be successful in basketball in that type of environment.
LSU has invested in the baseball program. It’s well past time to invest in basketball and upgrade facilities etc. we finally have a coach who will capitalize on it and I expect he will generate far more revenue than Paul. Hell he already does

don't care about just making it to the final four. That is like saying just want to make it to the cfp. Hell no need to win that bitch.
