Oh yea this has a chance “ In addition, the bill calls for NIL funds and revenue directly shared with the schools to be distributed “equally among all student athletes of such institutions within the ACSA.” Broadcast revenue would also need to be distributed equally, and athletes would be able to transfer “freely” and do so without penalty or restrictions, according to the bill.”

Honestly though I can’t stand people interjecting politics with sports but is it with so much insane legislation happening in DC regarding college sports? How have they even managed to completely frick up one of the last well functioning systems public institutions had?

Yea. Let's fix something by letting the federal government run it.

The bill also takes aim at coaches’ salaries as those figures rise. A coach’s maximum annual salary would have a cap of, “10 times the full cost of attendance at such institution,” according to the text.
so broke down a few (using Google to get rough "Full Cost of Attendance" numbers
Duke and North Carolina are about 30 minutes apart and play in the same conference.
Duke can pay their football coach around $ 815,000
North Carolina is only allowed to pay theirs $ 561,000
USC and UCLA are also around 30 minutes apart and play in same conference as each other.
USC can pay around $ 892,000
UCLA can only pay $ 672,000
Houston and Rice are jogging distance from each other.
Houston is in a Power 4 conference while Rice is in Group of 5.
Rice can pay somewhere around $ 731,000
Houston can only pay around $ 370,000
Vanderbilt would be allowed to pay their coach ($ 884,000) a little more than double what Florida would be allowed to pay theirs ($ 438,000).
Army, Navy, and the Air Force Academies will not be allowed to pay anybody to be their Head Football coach.

Under the bill, conferences would need to include teams within the same time zone,
so Hypothetically speaking, Indiana and Florida State can be in the same conference as each other.
to Drive the most direct route from one of those schools to the other, you would literally pass either directly through or really damn close to the following FBS schools that cannot be in the same conference as either of those schools:
Western Kentucky
Vanderbilt
Middle Tennessee
UAB
Alabama
Auburn
Troy
Tennessee and Vanderbilt can no longer be in the same conference despite being in the same damn state.

they could just pass a bill exempting college sports from antitrust laws….

Not surprising seeing this socialistic crap coming from a Trump Republican...

The guy who introduced the bill is from Washington. With the coach caps and conference time zone requirements I would bet just about anything he’s a Washington State grad or fan since they have been left out in the cold.

Their scholarships aren't guaranteed so why should the athlete sign a contract?

If you’re talking about football…the scholarship agreement is what they sign as their NLI now…so technically the scholarship is guaranteed for the term on that contract.
