This is just year one of the Lane Kiffin era. Lane will figure out in a few weeks when another decent mobile QB eliminates us from playoff contention that he will never win a title with Baker as DC. Hopefully he fires him at year end. I wanted Bake gone with the entire Kelley garbage group last year. I'm in every thread last week trying to temper expectations because we have yet to see Baker face a decent QB. Well, once again we get a good taste of what the rest of the year will be like when we go up against a decent or great QB.

With that, here are features of a Blake Baker defense for those of us who actually pay attention:

If your QB is in the bottom half of college football QBs, then you are going to get skull fricked by the Baker defense. You will be lucky to break 50 yards rushing. You will turn the ball over frequently. You will be sacked 4-5 times. You will have at least 7-10 plays that will go for no gain or a loss. You will leave the game wondering how many NFL players were on the other side of that vaunted LSU defense.

If your QB is in the top half of QBs (60 or above), then you are in good shape. If that QB is mobile, then you are going to look like a Heisman contender. Here's the best part. If you are a decent QB and you are playing a Baker defense for the second or third time, your numbers are going to improve each game (See Marcel Reed, Jalen Milroe, Chambliss, etc as a few examples). He cannot scheme to stop you. In fact, most of the game you will see the same looks you saw years prior or even better, he will play a very soft zone so you can just throw a five yard pass all game long.

3rd and Long (7 yards or more)? No problem! We will sit back in a soft zone, only rush 2-3, no spy, play ten yards off the WR/TE, and allow you all day to set your feet and throw to whoever you want. Everyone will be open due to the cushion our DB's will provide. Easy picks ups. The only thing that will stop you is if you overthrow it. If you decide not to throw, no worries, there are plenty of open running lanes available to pick up that easy first down.

Get the ball before halftime with no time outs and a minute on the clock? You are pretty much going to get gift wrapped a TD. Last year, Bama only needed 30 seconds and three plays to get a TD right before half. We are going to sit back in a prevent and just let you do what you want until you score. Baker HATES having momentum going into the locker room. Go look at every big game of his era so far. The opposition has scored easily before HT even in situations where they had hardly any time and no time outs.

Second half adjustments? LOLOLOLOL IF we make the adjustments, we will revert back to the scheme that won't work as soon as the score is tied or LSU claws back to take a lead. Last night was a great example of this. As soon as LSU gained all the momentum and tied the score, Baker went right back to the soft zone and OM marched right down the field. Even if Leavitt doesn't shite the bed and somehow ties the game, OM would have gotten the ball back with a 145 and no time outs. Baker would have gift wrapped them a score to end it. LSU would have just lost 35-32 or 39-32 (this is more likely).

Let's say the week before you played LSU, you got your arse handed to you by a mid tier team that actually used a solid scheme and stopped you. Don't worry, Baker won't watch that film and replicate it. You will be OK just watching how you played against him last year. You will see that again.

From this point forward, don't expect anything to change. We have not seen it change in three years. Marcel Reed will once again drag his nuts across Baker's face for the third year in a row. He will beat us exactly how he has beaten us the past two years. 8&4 will easily put up 35-40 points and likely win by a TD. I think we can score on their D too, but Baker won't be able to get the stops when it matters. Yeah, freaking KY gave us the plan on how to stop him, but it won't matter. We won't do any of that, and if we do, it will only be for 1-2 series.
