I think some are confusing "short-term" acceleration with what is usually understood as speed relative to football. Most of us would understand the OP in terms of either 40 yd, 60M, or 100M times.
That said, my money's on Trindon.
Has any NFL put up a better 100M time than Trindon? I think Demps has a wind-aided better time. Anybody else?

Blast from the past. Sammy Grezaffi was old school fast.

I thought Eric Smith (WR from the 90s) was legit track speed fast.
Maybe I'm remembering that incorrectly.
I know he couldn't catch crabs in a whorehouse.

Who's on your list?
There is The List that is or was in the LSU Track and Field Media Guide. Definitively the fastest LSU Football player ever was Trindon Holliday. In fact according to the list he is the fastest College Football Player ever. He was clocked at 10.00 in the 100M. There are many track stars better than that and there are some NFL players better than that but they did not play CFB.

Track times from the 2014 LSU Track & Field Media Guide (I think I included all football players listed in the sprint events, but I'm not positive. Larry Shipp and Allen Misher were both drafted in the 1976 NFL Draft, but I don't think they played football at LSU.):

Billy Cannon also ran Track at LSU where he posted a 9.5 in the 100 yd (not meters) in 1959!

I think you missed my point.

We've seen a bunch of fast guys here. Most were "football fast" (Devery, Carlos Carson, etc), but Trindon and Xavier were just stupid-fast compared to the other guys on the field. I remember the one bomb Xavier caught from Flynn in mop-up time, it was just a joke to watch. He was about 20 yds past the corner, if I remember rightly.
Same thing with Trindon on some of his kickoffs. There were times he'd be all alone on the TV screen before he even got to midfield.

I saw Orlando McDaniel run the 100 at a track meet at Barbe HS in 1978. He was the fastest guy I ever saw in person on the track.

What about the kid that played special teams for LSU a few years back. Moody, Mcbride???? Someone help me with the name. Not sure of his name, but he was blazing fast as I recall. I believe ran in the Mid 4.2's in the forty. Always first down there on the kickoffs. I think UL offered him a full ride but he passed it up to walk on at LSU.

yes, peterson is a freak of nature. it's almost unnatural for someone as big as he is to move like he does
I think a lot people don't realize that LaRon Landry was right up there with PP in terms of size, speed, measurables. PP had the edge on LL, but not by much.

Landry was the type of guy that was faster in workouts than in real life. But his combine was freaky, no doubt.
