In person, he looks thicker than when he got here, especially in the legs. Good thicker, but thicker nonetheless.

I noticed it last season. That is what made me think he would hit 10+ then the knee injury messed him up a bit I think.

He seems to be having really good at bats this fall. That is no surprise though.

Totally agree with both of y’all. I think he’s always had more pop than he’s shown, but was probably asked to take an approach gears more towards making contact and getting on-base his freshman year. And I think we really downplayed/underestimated just how much that knee injury hampered him last year, and we should see a nice balance of both approaches.

It will be interesting to see where he winds up in this lineup. It’s gonna be interesting to see where everybody winds up in this lineup honestly. We’ve got more than 9 guys capable of hitting double digit home runs with enough ABs. I said last week that there will be some hard decisions/conversations with Jay and some really good players. I was obviously thinking about the roster limit, but there’s some future pros on this team who are gonna have a hard time getting at bats in this lineup, and we may lose a few that want more guaranteed playing time to show scouts. I’m not sure how many Jay’s gonna have to actually “cut” for roster numbers, some may just see the writing on the wall and leave just to go play. Like Gio did.

My thoughts are that you should typically lean veteran at whatever position.

Being "as good" is not enough to typically unseat a guy that has that most valuable thing called experience.

Guidry would have to offer you more than JT at SS for example. Based on what I've seen so far this fall, he doesn't yet.

Same with Neal. Haven't seen enough from him to bump Milazzo...at least not yet IMO. As the year progresses who knows how things will shake out. To think Neal will start at catcher game 1 just doesn't seem likely to me at this point.

I will say Milazzo looked bad the other day defensively (think it was Friday). Two passed balls and a bobble that led to an easy steal. It wasn't your typical solid Milazzo that night.

I ruled 4 wild pitches from Herring during Friday's scrimmage rather than passed balls. The bobble was Tranvinski's, who relieved Milazzo after the 4th inning.

2 of the 4 could have been stopped. Another two went into the next.

There’s certainly a balance to be found. But at some point, talent trumps experience. I’m not saying we start a bunch of high ceiling freshmen over proven veterans, but there will be a couple you just can’t take off the field.

I think this is one where Guidry’s talent will win out in the end at SS. I haven’t seen a single AB this fall, but I’m just making a prediction based on reading between the lines. I think he’s more talented than JT and will prove to be a gamer.

Speaking of gamers, I think Jay figured out Dugas is one and wants him to stay—and he probably will. But he’s gonna have to pick it up offensively to establish himself may 1 of the 9. That’s one of those hard conversations/decisions I was alluding to. Jay’s gonna have to be real honest with him about what he sees as his role on next year’s team. I don’t know how much his ‘21 season does for him in ‘23. I’m also not sure if he has a real future in pro ball. This may be his last season to play baseball. (It may not, I doubt he’s fully recovered from his injury). Not sure his priorities, either. He may be fine being a spot starter and late-inning pinch-hitter (if that’s what Jay feels his role is gonna be. I’m not predicting that, just using him as an example) on a team that should challenge for the CWS championship. Or he may rather go somewhere where he knows he’ll play everyday.

I graduated high school during the peak gorilla ball years. I may could have walked on and been a last guy on the roster, program-type guy, getting single-digit ABs for 4 years. I fully concede I may not have been. But I turned down a full academic scholarship to LSU (it came in late and TOPS started the year after I graduated), but I loved playing baseball. So I went to Tech where I thought I had a chance of actually playing as an upperclassman. Tore my shoulder to shreds and had a shite surgery, so my “career” was over my redshirt freshman year. But being a glorified cheerleader didn’t appeal to me. Even if it was on an NC caliber team. I wanted to be on the field. I imagine there are guys that feel the same way of this team.

Dugas will have to hit better than he did last year & currently in the fall. He will have to play a decent 2B too

Milazzo will have to hit better than .170 to play everyday. To me, you still just put him in late in the game.

Beloso will have to hit for some power to play.

The new guard guys & transfers are beating the door down. The old Manieri guys flat out have to play better.

BayTiger and Scuba...thanks again for what you guys do.

I've made the effort to make 5/7 games so far, and Scuba's commitment...along with Wild driving all the way from Covington each time is impressive.

Some #LSU baseball things:

-Vanderbilt transfer pitcher Christian Little will throw Sunday
-Freshman Jaden Noot will be ready in 2 weeks, he's on a different throwing plan

Thanks Morbid I asked yesterday if anyone heard of an injury to Little or Noot as they haven't pitched yet. Happy to hear that it will be soon for both!

I know it's early but based on observations do we think the lineup and rotation will end up like this.

1st...Morgan
2nd...Dugas
3rd...White
SS....Thompson
LF....Pearson
CF....Crews
RF....Kling/Ruddell
C.....Milazzo
DH....Skenes/Beloso

Weekend Rotation between....Skenes, Hurd, Little, Floyd, Taylor, Dutton

That's a pretty good guess IMO. If Ruddell keeps up his hot start at the plate he could get serious OF consideration. I would add Milazzo at catcher in game 1 as of now.
