Amazing that these professionals can just decide not to play.

Insane how both 18 and 7 are sitting out the bowl game. I think its officially time to stop the tradition.

This times infinity. Those are both fairly new “traditions” that need to finally be put out of its misery.

scrap all these trash toilet bowls allow teams to scrimmage on their own for estra practice. NGAF about these games anymore.

If they didn’t make money, they would go away. As long as they are turning a nice profit and doing decent ratings, they will remain.

Idk do you not know who some of the starting players are for LSU? If not, then that would be why

The opt outs are the best possible thing for this bowl prep and game to provide any value to the 2026 season. You should want every player who’s not on the team next year to opt out.

That’s only true at positions where next year’s starter is already on the roster. Many of these spots LSU needs the current starter to hold down the spot for one more game until a transfer can be brought in.

They need to take the money they are making on the games and convert at least some portion of the payouts into direct NIL deals with the players to give them an incentive to participate and perhaps addition NIL endorsement opportunities for members of the winning team.

Unless the prior era’s bowl games had a chance for a national championship, bowl games were always meaningless.

It’s all about the money, Teams get paid regardless of who plays. And people pay to go, regardless of who plays.

Not true of the past, but definitelytrue today. Bowl games of 1960s through about 2000, held significant status. No one opted out. Great crowds. Big names. Losing records did not earn invitations to bowls. Fans watched. Today, there are simply too many bowl games played by many unworthy teams.

They're not getting paid to play yet, just for the use of their name, image, and likeness.

The bowls should start playing the players.
The bigger the bowl the bigger the deal.

A lot of these bowls barely make money.

In what way? If you think the outcome is irrelevant, fine, I agree.

But the process of practicing and getting younger players an opportunity to start is definitely not meaningless!

It's not completely meaningless. Bowls aren't what they used to be, but still fun to watch if you enjoy watching football. And it also gives coaches a final live action evaluation opportunity of the guys currently on their roster.
