It seems clear that we will lose a lot of talent this season (Thomas, Watford, Smart and probably Days).

How are things looking in regards to recruiting and potential transfers for LSU to reload?

Is it realistic to expect next season to be a down year, or does Wade have something up his sleeve to keep us competitive and make another tourney run?

We did fairly well his first year with very marginal talent. We’ll be okay next year. May not be pretty, probably won’t win the SEC but I don’t think it’s doom and gloom

I expect I won't know one players name until halfway through the season.

If thats true, you prolly shouldnt have bothered chiming in on a basketball thread. But whatever.

We will be better defensively, but far worse offensively barring some great addition and remarkable improvement by the few returning players.
Gaines and LeBlanc and Hyatt I presume are starters....rest TBD. Wilkinson was efficient as a freshman, but he doesnt look to score. It will be a weird roster

And yet it won't stop people like you on the Rant from chiming in around March (or at least after football season fully ends) to tell people about all the problems with the team, the way they play, and why the coach should be fired.

If you don't like basketball that is COMPLETELY FINE. But you don't add anything of value to a discussion about the team. For instance, I couldn't care any less about LSU baseball. But I also don't jump into every baseball thread just to make sure those who do love the sport know I don't care or to provide my completely uninformed opinion about the team's problems.

We'll have around 125 minutes to distribute once those 4 leave. Would be massive if WW can convince Javonte and Darius to stay. Gaines, Leblanc, Mwani, Hyatt, and Cook are going to have to take over if not. Josh Gray needs to be ready to play next year, too. Seneca Knight is a transfer that I could see getting some solid playing time. Would imagine the true freshman C/PF Colbert fights for early PT as well - looks very athletic.

ETA: Forgot about Shareef O'Neal lol. Plenty to be excited about, but the biggest question is who is the scorer on this team - assuming WW tries to find that guy in recruiting.

Wait and see until roster is filled out.... there will be impact transfer / JUCO additions this year. To think the Tigers won’t be successful next year is ignoring what’s right in front of all of us the last 4 years.

Will still wait and see what roster will be like, but I think expecting the NCAAT is probably too lofty a goal. I think this will be a lot more like wade's first team here. Maybe go 16-18 wins before postseason or the like. Fact is it's incredibly tough to lose the talent and experience of our big 4 and immediately recover from that. All the other guys need legit experience first. We dont have Cam Thomas newcomer types to bail us out in that aspect.

It's just a rebuilding year - not a Vandy/A&M rebuilding year, but we'll probably win 6-8 SEC games next season and be back in the hunt in 2022-23 season.

Don’t think you can make any predictions until August.

Saying it’s going to be a rebuilding year is a complete guess right now. They still have a ton of talent just more unknown.

If Wade adds a couple transfers with experience and that can score (there are a ton of those in the portal), then this team can 1000% make the tournament.

There will likely be a drop-off. I just don't know if it will be that drastic. I think a reasonable expectation (right now) without knowing the roster of both LSU and other SEC teams, as well as the schedule, is probably somewhere between the 17-18 season and 19-20 season. Which would put them at about 10 SEC reg season wins. Remember, Wade won 8 SEC games that first season with essentially Jones' roster and Tremont Waters. And the SEC was a pretty good and balanced league that year sending EIGHT teams to the NCAAT. LSU also had wins over Houston (6 seed) and Michigan (3 seed and national runner-up) that year along with several (what would have been) Q1 wins

No question LSU is likely looking a huge drop-off in production they have to replace. But I think Wade has kind of earned the benefit of the doubt with his performance over the last 4 years.

Not that big of a drop off. Worst case scenario
PG- Gaines/cook
SG- Murray
SF- Fudge
PF- O’Neal
C- Corbin

Murray similar to Thomas just like a step behind, Corbin a legit big, fudge might be a slight improvement on the offensive side over trendon, and Gaines is a good distributor. That smells like a 11-12 seed team.

Pretty low, but it's how I get through Jan, Feb and early March, the worst time span of the year.

Ready to go down with the ship like I do every year.

We return four 4* recruits from the #4 class in the country last year another 4* who didn’t play this season and so far have signed a 4* for the next class. We’ll be fine.

I like these expectations because they will be easily beaten.

*Colbert.

And Bradley Ezewiro will start over O'Neal. Bradley is bigger, stronger, quicker and more skilled.
