Lane would fire his arse immediately and certainly not let him coach the bowl game if he strong armed him like that. Plus, I always thought Frank and Lane had a good relationship.

Gotta be this. If you’re not gonna sign at LSU this week then wait till staff is in place and then decide. Don’t sign elsewhere early and rule out LSU

And if that is true then it's a dumb idea. The majority of players now sign during ESD and there may not be a roster spot on their backup team come NSD.
No team is going to hold a place for them without a commitment and on the whim that they may come if things don't work out at LSU.

A few questions(related to Frank Wilson), how good were our running backs the last couple of years? Did we have good running back rotations this year? What the heck happened with Nate Sheppard from (Mandeville High) Duke? How did we miss so badly on a kid that has more rushing yards than any other freshman running back in the country? We also have no 2026 high school commitments at running back. I would think we’d sign 1. I want to keep Frank related to recruiting and ties to New Orleans not necessarily for his on field coaching ability.

If a player you want is ready to sign with LSU on ESD you obviously let them sign.
If a player you want is waffling at the 11th hour because of the staff turnover, and he’s indicating that he’s gonna sign somewhere else, you try to get him to delay until NSD.
Again it’s not a novel concept.. if you don’t think you’re gonna get a kid on ESD, you try to get him to delay signing so you can make up ground. Coaches do this all the time. Just like they do it with guys they’re trying to flip from other schools.
You can call it “the stupidest thing you’ve ever seen on here” but it doesn’t make it any less true. Yes, the landscape is changing and more players are signing early. Maybe it becomes less effective if guys are worried about losing offers because of it. But it’s silly to act like it’s some crazy idea.
I have no idea whether that’s what’s actually happening right now, but that was the premise of what you called out as stupid.
