I'd love to read the SECs response to Mullens inquiry about the Ridley TD where he ran out of bounds for 10 yards........and the ref that marked it with his hat called the TD without a hat on...........worst I've seen yet

which would come out of the mouth of Alabama alumnus, and SEC Head of Officials, Steve Shaw...right?

Guy might be the greatest, most honorable man to have ever walked the planet...but the fact that we're part of a league that allows that potential level of the appearance of impropriety is kind of all you need to know.

I was wondering about this while I was watching the game. The ref threw his hat down, but there was never a flag thrown or any mention of it from the commentators.

It gets more and more unbelievable every time I see it. I mean, has anyone ever seen this sort of obvious impropriety from refs anywhere else, save the refs of the USSR vs. USA Olympic gold medal basketball game?

I saw it at high school game.
I was on the sidelines and witnessed this.
A team had just run a fourth and inches and the ball was spotted short correctly. A measurement wasn't necessary but called fir anyway. A ref squatted down and put his hand on the ball. As the chains were running in, he looked at the chains on the other side of the field and moved the ball about 6" to get the first down for his payoff. SEC refs are just that bad, obviously.

Did the defender push Ridley out of bounds? If so, what's the rule on that?

Holy shite. I didn't see the first half, so I didn't know what you were talking about. My assumption would've been that he was forced out of bounds by the defender.

But I pulled it up on YT and watched it. fricking ridiculous. Ridley ran an "out-and-up" route, and the defender wasn't even close to him when he went out-of-bounds (hence the correct removal of the hat).

How that was not overruled or overturned is an absolute travesty. Seriously...WTF.

I couldn't tell from the video as my Youtube is jumpy today, but could the raionale been he was forced out of bounds? If the player is forced out of bounds, the ref still has to throw his hat but the player can still legally touch the ball first as long as he has re-established himself in bounds.

From what I could gather, there was a defender there (can not tell is Ridley was pushed) and he came back inbounds rihgt away.

Edit: also, wouldn't the play be reviewable? If MSST didn't review the play, they must have seen the same thing.

That's what i could not see, my video was jumping and it went from him running the out route, then he's back on the field with the defender right behind him

Watch it from here. Keep an eye on Ridley.

When he steps out of bounds, the MSU DB is like a yard behind him.

This is correct... there was a bump before the receiver made his cut to the outside. The receiver had separation with the defender trailing. As the receiver cut up field the receiver went out of bounds to avoid the defender.

ETA: Also the defender would not make contact at that point as it would be illegal contact/ holding on his part. And you can see the ref drop the hat just before the receiver gets back to the field.

shite has been going on since the 60's

side note a friend coaches HS ball and knows several refs and tells me stories about how they do favor a team that is respectful and polite vs a thug dirty talking team.

people will be people. I think refs are like cops over 90% are in it for the right reasons but he bad ones are out there and make you distrust them.

That blowhard Matt Moscona should watch this. He screams at any fan who calls in about the biased officiating towards Alabama and calls them idiots. Moscona has a hard-on for Alabama, always taking up their defense. He never even mentioned the fact that Arden Key was literally tackled from behind when he was on the verge of sacking Hurts inside the 10-yard line, much less the fact that Key was held on multiple occasions all night. When Moscona travels to Alabama, he must bring knee pads just in case he meets up with Nick Saban.
