I'd take Etling every day of the week with Hurts's Offensive Line.

You'd take Etling over the SEC offensive player of the year last season who as a true freshman who accounted for 36 total touchdowns, threw for 2,780 yards, and run for another 954 yards?

DE would be remarkably more effective behind that Bama OL...........

Our offensive line was incredible last season. Why wasn't he remarkable then?

Dude he had 20 carries for 114 yards. Stop blaming 1 play on the outcome of that game.

so 19 for 86 without that play. Still a 4.5avg but people saying he "ran wild" on us aren't remembering things well. Bigger play last year was Hurts' fumble that Riley ran back for a TD that they ruled down so it couldn't be reviewed.

DE had more than enough time to throw in both the Auburn and UF game. He was below average against UF, and had Auburn not dropped a pick 6, he would have been below average there too.

Is it because he's a larger, more durable and mobile QB?
Have to admit, if you get basically the same passer and add a dimension (running) it is kind of a no brainer.

It's only a hard decision when you're sacrificing one (usually passing) to get the other. In this case, we're talking about two equal passers (by stats).

Well

PFF: LSU had college football’s best offensive line in 2016

PFF released its awards for the 2016 season, and the Tigers earned the title of No. 1 offensive line in all of college football.

A number of factors contributed to LSU’s stellar ranking. But it started with the pass protection on the interior.

The guy with almost identical rushing numbers to Hurts this year is Nick Fitzgerald at Moo State. Hopefully we learned something in that game that can help us in this game.

Hope so too.

Because they are watching that film and are going to run that offense until we stop it.

This is tough when they have such good RBs.

No doubt.

The trick is to let them see you spy... then don't. When you are spy, but with someone who they haven't accounted for with their blocking (best guess), e.g. OLB when they are in power with FB.

LSU does have the skill/athletes in the back 7 to do this. As long as they play their assignments that is.

If a QB can average 4.5 ypc on almost 20 carries vs a team that finished 8th in rush yard average, I'd say he definitely ran all over us. For reference Trevor Knight averaged 6 ypc on the year, he averaged 1.8 vs LSU, Lamar Jackson averaged 6 ypc on the year and averaged 1.3 vs LSU, and Nick Fitzgerald averaged 7 ypc on the year and averaged 1 ypc vs LSU. Hurts averaged 5 ypc for the year, averaged 4.5 before the last carry, and finished averaging 5.7 vs us.

Seriously LSU fans were one of the only fanbases with a big presence on the internet, that didn't give that guy his props last year, and still don't do it much this year. The guy was a true freshman. I don't care how good you line is, or players you had to throw to, to put up those kinds of numbers as a true freshman was just ridiculous.

Lol not surprised you’d link an opinion article as proof..... LSUs oline ranked 47th on average last year by all adjusted metrics, nowhere close to the best in the country and it showed vs the good defenses we faced.

Total yards is much different. Watching sec now they showing clutch qb plays that made the difference n several games. Wasn't many either. Close games. Can Etling get on that list? It's been all Bama qbs time for an Lsu qb to step up.

One is undefeated with a better running game and a better defense. At least we have a QB with 200 more passing yards and somewhere around the 80th ranked passing offense, BOOM.

Makes no difference. Bama hasn’t had to throw AT ALL. They have just been running including Hurts. Put up their running stats.
