ESPN lost me years ago with their left-leaning politicization of sports. The last straw with their Michael Sam obsession. Now I don't care what Michael Sam does in his private life, but ESPN way overdid that whole thing for their own agenda.

Now, I only watch live games (mostly college football) and literally nothing else on ESPN.

This sums up it for me

"Middle America wants to pop a beer and listen to sports talk, they don't want to be lectured about why Caitlyn Jenner is a hero, Michael Sam is the new Jackie Robinson of sports, and Colin Kaepernick is the Rosa Parks of football. ESPN made the mistake of trying to make liberal social media losers happy and as a result lost millions of viewers".

I am not a fan of ESPN'S liberal lean, but you couldn't be more wrong. As much as I hate to admit it, this country is still mostly liberal! Hillary Clinton won the popular vote in this past election! Thank goodness that's not how we decide who sits in the White House. The majority of Advertisers target liberals. What you said sounded great though!! Wish it was true.

Cord cutting and escalating rights fees

Exactly....just switched to a Directv plan with no ESPN....they're the most expensive cable channel out there charging the average subscriber $7-8 monthly for their service. I don't watch it other than football season and I can learn to do without it then as well I suppose.

I just leave an alternative take here for all the non-right winger types...the entire piece is more well rounded and explanatory than that well-worn trope...

The Ringer

"2. Libtard ESPN got what it deserved! So goes the take bubbling into the feeds of media critics, and being shot from the elephant gun wielded by Jason Whitlock.

We’ve been here before, too. When the NFL ratings sank last season, it was all Colin Kaepernick’s fault.

One of the curses of living in interesting times (Donald Trump Edition) is that every media organization bears the mark of a secret political agenda, according to that one guy on the message board who has figured it all out.

Are ESPN’s layoffs the direct result of Bomani Jones having a particularly righteous night on the radio, or the network showing Michael Sam kissing his partner? No, no, no. Pierre LeBrun does not (as far as I know) wear a pussy hat.

If the take comes from someone who works for a competing cable sports network, be twice as skeptical.

“Is ESPN a liberal network?” is a legitimate and interesting question that deserves examination. But if you see someone saying ESPN got comeuppance for its “agenda,” they have, in nearly every case, just revealed their own."

incorrect. And basing your opinion on the presidential election is misguided.

Republicans have majorities in both houses of Congress, and have huge majorities at the state level, with governors and state houses.

The country is more conservative than liberal. Liberals have big majorities on both coasts and big urban cities. The rest of the country is majority conservative.

good lord, fella. We're not talking the Webster's definitions here.

In political terms, the cleanest distinction I tell my daughters is that liberals favor bigger government, and conservatives favor smaller government.

Wishful thinking by bigotted conservatives. The cord cutting theory is much more believable.

ESPN generates most of their $ from cable subscriptions. Fewer people with monthly cable bills = fewer subscribers.

That is how they are losing money.

Edit - per Business Insider article from a year ago, 60% of their revenue is from subscription fees.

Which makes my point! LOL! The majority of the populace live in those areas, that would also mean the majority of the population. I'm not against you, but the numbers are the numbers. You cant go by who controls the House and the Senate, congressional districts have been manipulated by both parties for ages. President Trump is in office because he won the right states and got the electoral votes from them. Which is a good thing! but this country is still very Liberal.

Reasons why ESPN sucks now:

Espn overpays for broadcast rights, which makes everybody's cable bills skyrocket.

ESPN shows more debate shows than actual sports these days. Nobody wants to watch newspaper columnists argue with each other every hour.

ESPN forces liberal agendas down everybody throat, when they're just tuning in to watch sports.

You can't even watcha highlight on any espn channel without an espn personality giving hos opinion.

Tom Rinaldi and that stupid piano music that plays everytine he talks.

i think this is the point. theres no one reason why espn is losing viewers.

cord cutters are definitely a main reason but those people arent cutting the espn cord simply because of the cost. they are finding alternative ways to watch games and not have to pay for Stephen A and 6 other shows arguing over the same topic day after day.

I hope Bomani gets on a boat with Lebatard and his old pappy and they all set sail for Cuba.
Bitches caused me to quit listening to ESPN radio.
