ESPN made the decision to cover politics and that turned me off. They were a sports network and not a political news organization. Don't want them conservative or liberal, just sports.
Beyond that, they are boring, trying to make every show "hip" and "trendy" and expanded too fast. I think this is only the beginning of their downfall. People are dropping cable, Dish, Direct TV, etc. in record numbers and the younger generation generally believes all media should be streamed free. Costs too much to simply be free and there is a tipping point that ESPN might have reached.

Politics how?
I think people who are so consumed into the political arena will find a way to put politics into everything.
They will tell you they want a CONSERVATIVE beverage, with a LIBERAL danish, while reading an INDEPENDENT paper. Thats how their mind operates.
With the explosion of the internet, social media and contract rights the writing was on the wall. This is no different than newspapers trying to adjust to the internet generation.
NOTHING POLITICAL ABOUT IT.

are you seriously saying you haven't noticed ESPN's website has injected political and social issues into their website and analysis over the past 5 or so years? It's blatantly obvious, and is the reason I try very hard never to click on an ESPN article or watch anything on that network other than live games.
Michael Sam, Britany Griner, Bruce Jenner, Kaepernick, etc, etc, etc. It's been a constant flow, and I got sick of it.
One of the reasons I like sports is because it's a refuge from the real world. I don't need politics, gender, or racial issues injected where they don't belong. Plenty of room for that out in the real world.
By and large, sports is merit-based and colorblind. I don't need ESPN beating me over the head with SJW issues. Stick to games and scores!!

But aren't all of those you mentioned SPORTS figures?

Of course, but ESPN used each of them to push SJW issues that are unrelated to their performance on the field. Political.
