And I hear Dugas out eight weeks with thumb injury. He was only position player not to play tonight.

Damn are you serious? I didn’t watch the game at all tonight just because it was against Southern. I really thought he had a really good shot at being the starting 1B when the other team throws a LHP

I really think it’s these guys playing too much baseball before they get to college. The kids in college now a days are really the first big generation of playing travel ball during the summer and in the fall.

A lot of these guys play in showcases every weekend during the summer, immediately after high school ball is over with, and they play in showcases during the fall as well. They aren’t getting the rest and breaks needed as a kid between the ages of 14 and 18. Even 16 and 17 year olds aren’t completely developed and their bodies aren’t completely matured enough to be able to handle playing all of this baseball, especially pitchers. Expect this trend to only get worse until something is done about it but I don’t know how you can take away a multi million dollar program like travel ball.

It's a lot of that, but this has been going on for a while now, with the over saturation of baseball, year-round. I think another problem is how scouts have become drunk with their love of velocity. Guys are throwing harder and harder, and fewer know how to pitch. Marceaux and Hill are outliers who have advanced stuff AND above average command. Most others have to learn how to pitch once they get to college. All that stress on the arm, trying to impress all the scouts, is contributing greatly, imo.

They have to peel way back on these showcases, but I don't know who's going to do anything to change the culture of "everyone has to throw 95 plus". That seems to be here to stay.

Still nothing conclusive on Gavin Dugas, but Paul Mainieri seems pretty sure he tore a ligament and will need surgery. If that’s indeed the case, Dugas will be out eight weeks

Just saw the tweet James Moran posted about Dugas. Man that’s tough to see. He had a lot of potential at really being a factor for us this year

Travel ball really could be the culprit. Go look at my last post before this one. These guys, especially pitchers, are throwing and playing too much baseball between Janruary and October, and not getting the rest needed for their bodies to heal. Remember, these are 14-18 year old kids who’s bodies haven’t matured and haven’t completely developed yet. Only MLB players should be allowed to play this much

Travel ball may not be the culprit in this case, but it is the sole issue why kids of all ages 10-20 have arm issues. These kids throw pitches 3-4x/week 52 weeks out of the year and physically have not matured enough to handle a load close to that. But hell, these travel ball coaches put so much pressure on the kids and parents that it’s ridiculous.

Early sport specialization is a HUGE problem. If you don’t believe me, just ask James Andrews opinion. He is against it 100%

Hill has only pitched twice and taken out around 80 pitches. How can he have arm soreness?

I saw a segment on the MLB Network where they were talking to Dr. Tommy John about his book on specializing in certain sports and travel ball. He feels the same way about it as Dr. Andrews. He said these kids are too young to be throwing as much as they do bc their bodies are still developing. It seemed like it would be a good read. I would imagine his dad’s injury/surgery had something to do with the field of work he entered.

Hill going down with the same thing many of our pitchers have is troubling to say the least.

In this case I think them teaching him a breaking ball didn’t help matters. Tons of reps on a pitch that fricks up your arm anyway isn’t optimal.

Hill already had a breaking ball. He’s barely thrown at all this year anyway. How is his arm sore already? Idk man you can say what you want but I just don’t get all the arm injuries @ LSU. 3+ arm injuries a year is a little alarming

according to Doug Thompson, he didn't have that breaking ball coming in. after working with him a few weeks, Dunn taught him to "throw it like a football".. and boom the pitch blossomed.

Skip never had this kind of arm soreness, this is happening far to frequently.

yea not saying that's what's causing the arm soreness, just parroting what i heard on the LockedOn LSU podcast yesterday. which, by the way, Moscona is doing a great job with.

Dunn's methods should be studied. It's happening too much.

It's this right here. Either Dunn and the S&C coach need to get together and find out what they're doing wrong, go talk to other coaches, but this is on them.

Yeah travel ball doesn't help, but this is happening far more frequently at LSU than others. In the case for Hill, you think he was playing travel ball this summer?

Whatever program they have for these pitchers, it's not doing the job. I know a thing or two about this stuff, and the LSU injuries are definitely an anomaly

He gives them wedgies, punches them in the arm, and gives them noogies. Just standard stuff.
