That's really what it came down to ... while it is true that the Bama receiver was down before Reid acquired possession, he did not himself possess the ball bc he was bobbling it all the way to the ground, so it was a free ball that had not yet hit the ground and available to either player for possession.

I havent spoken to him in quite a while but we were friends for several years and lost touch about half way through college. He was a great guy, very intelligent and obviously very athletic. He had a great and supportive family as well. They were well liked and respected.
Whatever happened in San Franscisco would have been of his own accord and probably genuine. I dont think hed have been easily bought or talked into any kind of political movement if he didnt really support it. I dont suspect he ever harbored any anti-america sentiment. I personally dont put much thought into any of it. He was a great guy, and from what I have heard still is.

His brother is my company’s rep for ADP (or was), great guy too. His other brother went to Stanford for football, so obviously all raised well by their parents.

This is unassailable application of the rules to this particular play. There is no reasonable other interpretation. The receiver did NOT possess the ball on contact with the ground and the first person to possess it was clearly the defender.
Period.

I just remember for a few years it seemed if a team tried a long pass against us it was a 50% chance it was gonna get intercepted.
