My ultimate point is there’s nothing stopping some elected leader here in America from trying to fuse the military and the flag to himself and using it for nefarious purposes.

It's arguable that a population adhering to a flag that stands for...

quote:

The list

Objective Truth
Democracy
Rule of Law
Civil Rights
Freedom of speech
Freedom of the press
Freedom of religion
Freedom of expression
Right to bear arms
Liberty
Justice
Free and fair elections
Right to privacy
Right to an education
Human Rights
Capitalism
Right to the pursuit of happiness

...is a very positive thing because it helps enforce those values.

So the issue really isn't being attached to a flag, its being attached to a flag that represents harmful ideologies.

This brings us back to claims of Kap and company. Does the flag represent a deeply racist institution or does it represent a country where anyone can succeed regardless of their skin color? If its the former than I think his kneeling is appropriate, if its the latter the kneeling should be roundly condemned.

You think the average American understands concepts like ideology?

Unfortunately many people view the flag as something divine and sacred while ignoring the concepts behind it.

It wouldn’t be too difficult to develop a cult like worship of the flag and that leads to bad things like the destruction of the principles the flag represents.

If these guys were as passionate about their beliefs as they claim, they would take it a step further rather than just acting like an azz on national TV.

If you did even the slightest bit of research you'd see that Kaepernick has given hundreds of thousands of dollars and untold hours of his time back to communities for which he protests. Say he's disrespecting veterans and the flag all you want - I'm not saying those assertions dont have some merit. But he unquestionably has put his time and money where his mouth (or knee?) is.

And he's out of a job because of it...and likely so toxic he may never catch on with a team again....and yes I know the Texans were talking about him.
Think he'd do the same stupid shite again given the chance to go back in time?

If I protest at my work, I get fired and rightly so.
He wants to protest, get in front of a camera before or after the game and express yourself. I'll support that right all day long. People come to be entertained...not to be subjected to someone else's political views.

Frick him and the horse he rode in on.

...which is further proof that he holds his convictions strongly and isn't just doing it for show, no?

That's your boss' prerogative (generally). Of course. Just like NFL teams can choose to not touch him because the distraction isn't worth his value as a player. I'm not arguing against any of that

That's pretty much exactly what he's done. What am I missing here?

oes not make the country my great grandfather fought and died for rife with injustice and worthy of blatant disrespect.

There were tons of black people who volunteered in WWII and they were treated like shite for making the same sacrifices.

It's all about intent. Him kneeling has nothing to do with the military in this case. His mom is a Army veteran. A persons actions should be judged by their intent.

quote:

He's taking it way too personally

Because it is personal to him.

quote:

A relatively few bad apples or misjudgements by police officers

Most cops are good, but the bad ones should not get a free pass for what any other person would serve time for. Everybody can agree on that.

Mohican

Not really disagreeing with your point of view. But his point of view could be different and necessarily not wrong at the same time. His intent has nothing to do with disrespecting the military.

Right. When I see a guy pooping on a baby I should not get upset if he tells me that he is protesting police brutality and that he has a baby himself. Because only the protestors intentions matter, not the act. In fact, he is pooping on his own baby!

I was about to get really mad but then I saw it was in protest of police brutality... What a saint.

What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

Sorry bud, not gonna waste my time trying to prove your claim.

This is a human rights issue which Reid said is not black or white or about the military, the flag, but social injustice. The South is still fighting the Civil War and displaying Confederate flags and monuments.

NOLA recently removed the Lee Circle statue but had to remove others under the cover of darkness due to militia death threats. Unlike automatic weapon-weilding whites (imagine a black man doing this), the icon of the GOC 9-6 win, All-American Eric Reid has carefully chosen and explained his motivations and actions based on injustice. How many LSU players besides Mathieu, Fournette, Guice, Perrilloux have been shot or had members of their family and friends shot?

This reminds me that we still have not made a lot of progress since Jessie Owens who said the Nazis treated him better than the US. Or Jackie Robinson, or Ali who won a unanimous Supreme Court Case not to fight in a war when his people had been imprisoned for hundreds of years and he could not eat in a restaurant.

There is no legitimate use for a weapon at a political demonstration. Banning guns from protests is necessary to preserve the First Amendment for all protesters, not just a few. But White supremacists have more 1st Amendment rights than minorities. The police feel threatened.

“What I was upset about was the false narrative being told about us. People were saying that we’re un-American, that we were against police entirely. And that just wasn’t true. Then fast forward to Charlottesville and people see what an un-American protest really looks like. What Colin and I did was peaceful protest fueled by faith in God to help make our country a better place. And I feel like I need to regain control of that narrative and not let people say what we’re doing is un-American. Because it’s not. It’s completely American. We’re doing it because want equality for everybody. We want our country to be a better place.

Have you ballooned this thread with ugly hate-filled posts?

Can you dumbasses please take a minute to understand WHY and WHAT these players are protesting?!?!

They have said time and time again that it has nothing to do with veterans and yet you and the media continue to make it about the vets.
