The consensus would determine that. I can pretty much guarantee you that if it was viewed as disrespectful to the anthem/flag/veterans/country that fans wouldn't be doing it.

Ask around the country, not simply the hypocrites that do it in Baton Rouge 8 Saturdays in the fall.

Also, it's absurd that kneeling is disrespectful but replacing "brave" with "Tigers" - equating a football team to the men and women who fought/died for this country - is acceptable.

Either they're both a problem or they're not. You can't pick and choose when manipulating the anthem is acceptable.

At the end of the day, people outraged over the "disrespect" would be better served to just point out how dumb the reason behind the protest is. Hiding behind this respect of the flag/anthem is pure hypocrisy.

Doesn't matter if that is their intention, that's what they have done. That is what you are doing by kneeling during the National Anthem. If they don't want to disrespect the flag, the country and our military, they need to find a new way to protest.

Lol he isn’t disrespecting “the troops”. If anything the troops should be happy he’s exercising his rights. They’ll be ok

Under his logic whatever the majority (in this case football fans) determines what is disrespectful.

like this?

voters 18 to 34 years old approve the anthem protests 66 to 27 percent....

and it's awfully funny what is "disrespectful" of the anthem.... change the words of our "sacred" anthem, thats ok.... but be silent and kneel while it's played, that's basically blasphemy... watch country musicians play gigs wearing the flag as a shirt, totally ok... but have an athlete kneel in front of that same "icon" and it's fighting words....

you guy's are arse backwards and can't see it because of the OBVIOUS bias and bullshite and that some of you have been instructed by your echo chamber overlords to take as gospel....

why not try to actually understand their point of view and why they choose to demonstrate, rather than just blow it off because you don't identify with it....

and FWIW, i think the essential reasoning is solid, though i don't think their kneeling is doing much good to further the agenda... and realistically, at this point, it's not having the effect they would quite like it to have....

What is pathetic is people like you who think that anything is ok. It isnt ok my friend. Not even close.

What is truly strange is the fact that some of you are so wrapped up in football and hero worship of these punks that you criticize others who voice their opinions about disrespecting this country. You are the pathetic one.

Exactly. Just look at how excited veterans get when a flag is burned. They just love the expression of free speech.

I don't remember any threads on the Scoreboard on Saturday calling out the people who likened a football team to veterans. I've seen few, if any, threads on the OT about businesses and individuals who keep the flag up at night w/o a light and during rainstorms.

The fact of the matter is that the anthem/flag is only sacred when you disagree with the people disrespecting it. That's it. It's that simple.

Please point out where the people protesting have said one thing negative about the military and I will be glad to have a discussion. Otherwise, please turn the channel from whatever you’re watching/listening to and you won’t hear this nonsense.

Please show any examples of hero worship being used to defend the players.

The NFL really needs to just go back to having the players enter the field after the national anthem. The goof balls won't have the stage.

No. Some of you are just too unwilling to stop your hero worship of idiots.
I hope the NFL dies.
I would turn my back on the NFL snd not blink an eye before I would ever disrespect my flag or my country.
The reality of this "protest" is that it is really just anti-Trump because almost none of these players were protesting until the President said how disrespectful the actions are. So dont tell me how committed these dumbasses are. It's a joke.

10 pages of discussion on this. If everyone would just quit talking about this altogether then the protests would go away. the people that disagree with the protests and keep complaining about it and "boycotting the nfl" are the people that keep fueling it. you are giving reid and the protest free publicity
