And coach Held’s special teams were key. Most great coaches are pretty volatile my man

I had Coach Held as a special teams coordinator in high school. I think maybe the disconnect in this thread may be that he's a great guy off the field but when he's coaching he can be a dick. He would lose his shite quite often at practice. Once when I was a sophomore OL, he grabbed me and made me play scout team safety. Now if the scout team card had an arrow or any direction at all I'd be fine but there was nothing. Naturally I didn't know what the frick I was doing and let's just say he made me question continuing my football career. When you're outside of practice and just shooting the shite with him or whatever though, he was a pretty chill guy. That's kind of just how a lot of coaches are. All in all I liked him and hope he does well at this position, he no doubt has a lot of connections in the state.

Yeah and you never learn if your coach just gives you praise all the time. When you’re getting yelled at it really puts you into focus to not making the same error again.

Because it's waste of money and resources when you can focus those resources into an evolved different NCAA. The only thing you need now is to identify talent and then buy it. That's how it works now just like professional sports.

Recruiting relationships mean almost nothing anymore. This isn't like the past. You don't need a staff full of elite recruiters. You need the biggest bag and that's it. I'd rather see a focus into scouting and coaching staff than a massive amount of resources into recruiting.

Also, better scouting could be argued it helps budget alongside recruiting. You're identifying more players falling in the cracks or gems that universities with less resources might overlook. Scouting is the new X factor in the changes to NCAA. Like I said above, the university that realizes this and figures it out best is going to be the winners. $$$ and scouting with coaching. Recruiting use to be 50/50 with everything else it's not like that anymore. It's a waste of money and a drain on resources.

In professional sports the FO that do the best job scouting are the winners. This is essentially what you have right now. It's professional sports people just haven't realized it yet.

Disagree that it’s light years betters than previously. Bonine is a slimy, snake in the grass.

The times I have met Coach Held he’s been a nice guy.

Because LSU still has a massive amount of resources into recruiting. It doesn't mean scouting is at the level it needs to be. I would in fact argue the opposite as evidenced how poorly LSU has recruited the portal/HS lately. You can look at recruiting rankings and say BK is doing fine here but in reality, it's not showing up enough on the field yet. There's a select few guys who are showing up but overall, more busts than you'd like to see.

I'm not entirely convinced this is coaching. I think this is a talent and evaluation problem. I've seen a noticeable decline in LSU's talent since Nader left LSU and I think LSU is severely overlooking this problem that starts with their administration FO. The personnel management hasn't been great since LSU's NC season and I don't think is entirely a BK problem either.

We'll see how good this portal class is incoming it has a lot of potential to be great. Hopefully this is a new beginning for how we hit the portal.

99% of every coach I knew was a dick(Richard), right? I mean back in the 70s if you were a hippie you got your arse kicked by coach or a player/friend of his. If you didn't respond correctly you got your arse kicked! They paddled harder than the rest of the teachers too!

From what I’ve been told, they even enforce some rules that do not exist. I’ve heard multiple cases have been challenged and had to be overturned because they LHSAA was wrong.

I agree more penalties have been imposed the last few years. I think that has a lot to do with the fact that Bonine would like the publics and privates back together and he can pound his chest and say look what I’m doing.

Regardless, he is a slimy snake in the grass.

Now, now, you know I can’t say the school names. The only one who can publicly release the names are the school.
