Great offensive coordinators have a special knack for getting the youngsters to buy in and excel. Great offensive coordinators possess a skill for ADJUSTING to what defenses are doing, calling the right plays at the right times. Spin it any way you want. Hope in one hand, sh*t in the other; this guy is subpar.

Well then you would stink just like SE stinks. You excuse-making jokers are going to be extremely disappointed next season when you see Ensminger's product. He's a liability; he'll cost us 2 or 3 games next season.

I'm still mad as hell at Orgeron and Ensminger. I was so excited about finally having a badass offense, an OFFENSIVE offense, and those 2 peckerheads absolutely screwed us. I'll probably shake it off a little bit by summer though.

I hope so. Might be a long summer if not. Let's see what he does in year 2.

And this playoff is going to piss me off even more. Maybe I shouldn't watch. Maybe I should take up elk hunting or somedamnsomething. These 4 teams will have very aggressive approaches on offense for 60 minutes; we won't see any pussy play calls. They'll be going for the juggler with a lead. There will be smoke coming out of my ears! I mean why the f*ck can't LSU - my team, my alma mater - have an aggressive offense!? Damnittohellsonofabitch!!!!!!!!

These coaches with these modern college offenses have said they can be fully installed in under a week.

Lol no way you believe this and no way you’re that stupid. That’s 100% false and so ignorant it hurt my eyes reading it.

I think the majority of us, even in this thread, will say that the OC was only part of the issue this year. We know the o line was shite. However that shouldn't give Ensminger a pass. I think that's where the frustrations are. People are trying to excuse the entire offensive production because of the O line which is not the whole story either. The truth is both the OC and o line were not great this year. It's up for debate how much of the blame to put where though.

One of a coordinator’s primary roles is to maximize the strengths and hide the weaknesses of his personnel. Ensminger obviously struggled with this all season, sometimes for entire games.

It’s kind of ironic that Ensminger did so much better of a job of utilizing the talent on the 2016 offense than Cam Cameron did. I guess we now see how low a bar that was. And I guess it also tells that anyone can call plays with Forunette and/or Guice behind a good OL and look competent.

Really? Wow! Good to know that struggling against Arkansas (win or lose) in cold weather after losing to Bama is now acceptable.

Interesting comment from Steve Ensminger re: letting Joe Burrow audible at the LOS: "He’s done a good job with that, but can the whole offense handle it? He can. Some of the other positions couldn’t, so we wouldn’t always do it every game."

Sure, just throw players under the bus, Steve. Not like it's the coaches job to get players ready to play or anything.

People defend this offense, which is fine. I'm 90% certain they'll be out of excuses next year.

Only the most ignorant can't see how that is much more of an issue than coaching.

This entire thread is an abortion. You've actually got guys in here that think that they know more than the coaches on offense, personnel etc.

It's so pathetic that it's hilarious. You keep shaking your head thinking that they can't sink any lower then they cheerfully drag themselves and others further down with them. It's straight comedy. Be thankful that you are here witnessing it.

We had the same 4 OL start every game after Ole Miss.

That’s 7/8 SEC games.

Sorry but the OL being injured isn’t the excuse people make it out to be.

Pundit-types ofter refer approvingly to who has the most 'complex' offense and how the game of football continually becomes more 'complex.' Not only does this overstate football's schematic possibilities, it also has not proven to correlate to succes. This is particularly the case in college football, where practice time is limited. In this vein, Chris Brown has a fantastic piece detailing how Dana Holgerson and his 'Air Raid' cohorts install their entire offense in three days

Just exit the thread, please.

It's a shame that someone like me, who brings facts to the conversation, gets banned when someone like you is allowed to spew ignorance unfettered.

Meyer installed his base offense at Utah in six practices. Meyer took the same approach to building the offense outward as Brown describes. Every day, Meyer installs two to three: 1) formations; 2) motions; 3) run plays; 4) protections; 5) quick game; 6) dropback game; and 7) "screen/deceptives." Each day builds off the previous day. For instance, Day 1 begins with Meyer's basic 3 x 1 and 4 x 1 shotgun formations: doubles and trips with and without a tight end. The run plays are also of the same 'family.' Both speed option and zone read employ zone blocking, providing the offensive line repetitions. The downhill routes are all variants of four verticals, providing the base of the route tree for future days. Day 2 builds from there. On day 2, Meyer introduced his 'empty' formations. Meyer also introduces two plays that build off the zone read--the read with the H-back blocking back ("Fargo"), and the wrap and QB wrap, also known as 'dart.' Below, Charles Fisher from 'Fish Duck' explains how 'dart' builds upon the zone read and power.

That's awesome.

A final thought on motions, shifts and so forth: I don’t show them in the above as I don’t see them as properly part of the initial installation of an offense. I think the first three days and maybe even all of, say, a spring practice, can go without motion. Such motions and shifts come in later, to add the apparent complexity to an offense that isn’t actually there for the players. That stuff is easily taught once the players are taught their assignments

So they're not actually installing the entire offense in 3 days or even 3 weeks. They're simply installing a base offense without motions. The article is somewhat misleading as it is actually next to impossible to install an offense in 3 days. Theres another part that I didn't link that bothered me as well.
