it doesn't take an entire season for a RB to "learn the playbook."

Name another recent LSU running back, besides Guice that could have replaced Clyde in this offense.
It takes a lot of plays to learn the offense. Freshmen need not expect to play a lot unless there is an injury to the experienced player.
Three WRs, one TE, and one running back got almost all the plays.

I think the hot hand will get the nod next season.

No running back on the roster has the skillset CEH has.

Since when is LSU looking for a new OC? Did Steve Ensminger retire or something?

Hope he learns to pick up a blitz

In this new offense, running backs are seldom used to pick up blitzes. So I'm sure it's not that difficult to learn.

I hear a lot of people downplaying the playbook aspect of Emery's game, arguing that RB is the easiest position to learn. That is simply wrong-- a key aspect of our offense was running every formation with our base personnel, preventing the defense from substituting. This placed a whole different level of responsibility on CEH, and he handled it beautifully. When Emery gets the mental aspect down, he will be a gamechanger; be patient.

He’s not that good (yet) picking up blitz’s and catching the football. He is nothing like Clyde.

We hardly ever use our running backs to pick up blitzes anymore. As we usually go with empty sets or use the running backs to either run the ball or for RPO plays.

He’s a talent for sure but he better learn to pass protect or he’ll be the 3rd back his year.

Uhm...we don't use the RBs to pass protect anymore. We run a new completely different offense today.

Those of you saying we don’t us RBs to pick up blitzes are completely wrong. Insert 3rd and 17, that happened because Clyde picked up a good block. Burrow had Emery come out of a game because he missed picking up a blitz.

I think we can roll with any of the three.

Right. But assuming the same offensive philosophy we don't want a committee approach

We want one to take the lead so we don't give the defense a chance to sub

There was mention of a medical issue in another post.

Can anyone elaborate on this, please?

Running back is the easiest position to transition into from high school. The playbook narrative surrounding Emery sounds pretty ridiculous to me

2 years ago this was true.

This offense requires a LOT more from the RB. maybe we dial it back next year, but CEH had to know running lanes, oline blocking schemes, pass pro, and a full route tree this season.

Most offenses don't ask that from young RBs

He'll be going into spring as the third string running back. He's got a lot of work to do. Recruiting stars don't always translate to college results.

He has a very unique skill set compared to Davis-Price and a Curry, combined with elite speed. However, he has a lot to improve on before he becomes the #1 back. He needs to learn the playbook. Plus he needs to be able to be trusted to pick up blitzes and catch balls out of the backfield. If he can do that, he can be a very special player. But he’s not there yet.

Curry is much closer to a Derrick Henry style back than to CEH.

all 3 need to work on pass catching this off season. Also blocking. 10000 catches on jug machine. Recieving and blocking just as important as running ability for RB's in this offense. Which ever RB is best all around will get the start. Also knowing the offense very well and be in sync with the QB in this hurry up type offense

I think he means that Curry is most like CEH out of the 3 in terms of that he can catch the ball and block the best. Probably wasnt talking about "running style".
