Can we also agree that certain posters are infatuated with Ed and think he does no wrong and argue against even the most legitimate criticisms of him?

I've always been one of O's biggest skeptics and I've never once wanted him fired or believed he was on the hot seat. Just because people criticize things that deserve to be criticized that doesn't mean they want him fired. Sure there are a few that probably do just as there are really a small percentage of people that think he can do no wrong. Most of us are in the middle somewhere.
Hopefully the new hires are good and we won't have to worry about any hot seats next offseason. The talent on this team is crazy good. The man has put together a solid roster.

Without question you’re correct about this. As far as predicting what record will get him canned or on the hot seat, I think a lot of that would depend on how we arrive at that point. He had an unprecedented season in 2019 and if you use the whip instead of the carrot with Orgeron I think you can get good results. But you can’t let up, gotta keep a close eye on him.

I love the guy too. I question him some as a coach though. It's two different things.

I’m not infatuated with him at all. It appears that way to you all because I play devil’s advocate to the ridiculous and outlandish criticisms of him, like people shitting on him for a completely innocuous comment about Johnson reminding him of Burrow. A completely rational and sane comment considering they share a lot of characteristics. Coaches sons, intelligent, mobile, etc.

He’s a flawed man. He’s not perfect. He shite the bed this past season. But I also don’t hold this season completely against him. It was a perfect storm. Everything that could go wrong, did. Half the team left for the NFL. Really screwed up offseason. And yes poor coaching mistakes. But to condemn him already is ridiculous.

Just the nature of a message board like this. Fans are fans. There are those that post with well thought out points and there are those that run around the room with a turd launcher. Just the nature of a medium that allows anyone and everyone with a connection to sound off at will.
As for your post, the world still remains filled with optimists and pessimists. As someone else out here stated, even if we brought Saban back there would be a camp that would rain down on him as being a bad choice. Some are just never satisfied. For me, I was, and am still positive on Coach O. The foundation is his love for LSU and that his heart bleeds purple and gold. He is a coach that is going to give everything he has to the job and he is doing this for more than the money. Because this is home and because of his heart I always felt like we were going to get his best effort. He's no Saban. He's not a sexy coach, but he IS LSU and he is Louisiana. He's going to make mistakes and he is going to be put through the ringer for those mistakes. But his history has shown me that he is not afraid to admit fault, is willing to learn from the mistakes and make the changes that are needed. Unlike the last coach and many others through history who went down with the ship refusing to do the things that would have changed their course of history. The strength to learn, the willingness to adapt and make the changes that are needed instead of trying to bend the world to their system. Every successful leader recognizes that every thing, every person, rises to their level of incompetence. At that point you have to change to break through that level and push the ceiling higher. Some of the lessons can be painful but the optimist in me sees a coach who is willing to make the changes that are needed for the benefit of his team. As long as he can continue to learn his lessons, staff this program with quality coaches and players and never stop pushing forward with the determination to win championships you have a pretty good recipe for continued success. This year will give us a pretty good indication of how well he learned from last year. I love the coordinators he brought in but I also realize this is not going to be a magic bullet. It's going to take some time for all of this to come together. But I do like what I've heard to this point.
At the end of the day you're still going to have people who find joy in being negative and those that find a reward in being positive. Try as best you can to find those that can engage in and hold intelligent debates and conversations, regardless of their position. You're more likely to have a rewarding experience.
And watch out for flying turds.

You gotta understand what the reaction to that comment was about though. A lot of our fans made hyperbolic arguments for Max and against Brennan all summer and now that their hype is going to be put to the test they’re nervous. Orgerons comments were totally harmless but they’re feeling the pressure because they thought they’d just be able to sit back and bash Brennan with Max coming in as a backup and no pressure if Brennan underperformed.

Edited because I mistakenly attributed a couple quotes to you that were said by someone else.

And in his 2019 season everything that could go right for him did.
We don't have enough on CEO to make a judgment. If you take away his fantastic season and his shitty season he's a 9-3 coach, which should be the floor for LSU.
Once again I will point out that if you can simply win one game out of Florida Alabama Auburn and Texas A&M, you can pretty much sleep walk into a 9-3 season because you are so much more talented than everyone else you play.

This is about where I am, but the 'pumpers' are just assuming LSU is going to win 10-11 games this year with no problem.
We have two new coordinators, and we can't just continue to fire our way out of it at that level every year.

I’m not condemning him, just voicing concerns that 2020 might be closer to the real Ed Orgeron than 2019.
I love LSU, so Nothing would make me happier than to be proven wrong

Getting to 9-3 isn't hard at LSU. Getting to 11-1 or better is. And so far he has only done that once. This year will be a huge year for the program.
We should have the talent to be 11-1. But we have huge question marks on the coaching because we had to start with a clean slate due to last year's hiring debacle on both sides of the ball.
And that is a fair criticism of Coach O. We should be into year two of rebuilding from the 2019 staff. This should be year two for the players in a competent offensive and defensive scheme. However due to Coach O's poor decisions, this is year one.

My guess is that so many people felt like Alleva screwed up the hire and should have never hired O. Now people have their pride hurt because O won a title and want to be right about him being a bad hire.. There is really no other reason to hate on O the way that people do.
Posted on 8/7/21 at 11:23 am to Frogman93
Does O really need y’all to coddle him like this? If he makes a mistake we’re going to call him out. He can handle it, I promise.
You think we’re the only fan base who does this. Every top program is this way. You should have seen the Florida boards after the shoe throw last year. And that entire fiasco and how Mullen handled it. This is not a job for people who need to be coddled.

I don't hate him. However, he's not qualified to have input on the offensive side of the ball so that's a red flag. He's not good in a media setting and and needs major help there. He's a used car salesman that will say whatever is necessary. That's football today I guess and I'm sure that helps him wine and dine recruits. His mouth got him in trouble with the team when they marched without him, as well as the bullshite stuff like saying the defense before last season was better than the 2019 defense ever was. He says too many stupid things and is often embarrassing. That's just my opinion. I still support the team and the HC at LSU.
