Ed Orgeron and our fan base.
Posted by Frogman93 on 8/7/21 at 7:14 am

Why do so many of our fans just despise Ed O? I don’t get it. I know he’s not Saban. But too damn bad. Nobody is Saban. Saban isn’t even Saban. But I digress. Where did all this vitriol come from. Yes he’s had some lows. But he also gave us the greatest season in our programs history. Arguably the greatest season in CFB history. And yet still y’all hate him. Y’all criticize every. Little. Thing. Criticism is one thing. But you people take it to an entirely different level. Why? Are y’all still pissed we didn’t get Herman? Would Herman have given us 2019? Just please give me a half decent explanation

Saban could’ve come back… won 5 natty’s… and people on here would hate him. People love to complain, Especially on this board

I don't think this board hates coach O. They just wanted him to hire better coordinators (Bo Pelini
). Time will tell.

I don’t dislike him. I do however want to see him finish at least top ten a few years in a row before I say I’m happy with him as head coach forever. He won a National Championship in amazing fashion but he also didn’t interview a coordinator before hiring him and look where that got us. I don’t dislike him, but I don’t love him like some either.

As far as the not interviewing thing, he did clarify that even if he had interviewed him, it wouldn’t have changed his mind. Not to mention it was smack dab in the middle of the pandemic and face-to-face interactions were basically taboo at that point.

He shouldn’t have ever brought that up - made the comment - I would have hired him anyway.
I honestly think if he would have interviewed Bo there would have been some red flags that would have told him to hold up.
All in I agree with you, Coach O is a good hire, he just needs PR help. Some things are better left unsaid….

Not true at all. Bo was hired before any social distance guidelines where issued. We where a few days into spring football when the pandemic came down

Ok. So he mad a bad hire. So does everyone. Not everyone has won coach of the year. Not everyone has coached the greatest team in CFB history.
Not to mention(and this is just rumor so take it with a grain of salt) that the Pelini hire was pushed by Woodward. O just said yes to it. But that’s not the point here.

Agree that was a very bad hire on his watch. But, no one I know is a pillar of perfection. They one thing I do appreciate is he does seem to learn from failures and corrects them.

Every fan base has their mouth breathers that just like to be heard, no matter how wrong they are. They are typically sidewalk fans who have only stepped foot on campus for games and have no other connection to the school besides that.
The double-edged sword for this board is that it's so popular that we have to deal with more of them than other schools, as they have a forum to post their crazy rants.
That said, I think there's only a very small portion of the fan base that feels the way you described. As I'm sure you are aware, people normally bitch more online rather than praise, so we just see more of their posts as opposed to the people that are happy with, like, or love Orgeron.

Coach O is a God in Louisiana for life no matter how this plays out. He gave LSU fans the single greatest season of all time in any sport. For that, he’s good for life in my book.

I dont think many fans despise him. Some may not like him as a head coach. I fall in that category.
Just dont think he brings enough to the position. He coaches no side of the ball. His strengths are recruiting, listening to his coaches, and i guess hiring coaches. And that last one is hardly a strength. Recruiting, while a good strength, hasnt been a problem here in over 20 years. The model of him hiring and delegating the work to coordinators is tricky and can only work if he nails hires on both sides of the ball. And if it works, he will have to do it every 2-3 years on both sides. He hasnt shown to be consistent enough in that respect for this to past more than a couple more years.
Im honestly surprised how much good will he has on this board after last season and the offseason stuff.

I think the poor results in his time at Ole Miss has forever clouded his coaching reputation.
But in retrospect, Houston Nutt underachieved there too. He won a few games in 2008 and 2009 with Coach O's recruits, and then failed miserably his last two seasons there.
