I haven't had a chance to post since the game. I have complained about areas of JD5's play the last 2 weeks and just want to be fair and give him his props today.

-He has not been throwing a lot downfield. He did a great job on the deep ball passing and Nabers was awesome as well. Nabers had to slow down for a couple of them and almost had them get broken up, but overall it was awesome.
-He has gotten better with getting the ball out faster in hitting the short to intermediate routes. There were were some times he held on too long and had to dance around when he had a guy open at the breaks. But that will happen.
We saw him improve in games with this last year and then slip back into the old pattern of hanging on too long the next game against better competition. Hopefully this is giving him confidence and he doesn't slip back into his old ways like last year. This was the step in improvement that we expected to see in the FSU game. Hopefully this continues against the better DL's and secondary. This was not a good MSU team and the D was wore out in the 2nd half, so I'm anxious to see if he can continue this against Ark, Ole Miss and Bama.
-He made some great runs both planned and unplanned. It is real nice to have his speed at QB. It is a real weapon. He just scares me when he takes hits. I don't know why he ever leaves his feet and why he doesn't get out of bounds when he can. We don't need him getting hurt.

Overall, well done JD5. I'm hoping this can continue with the better defenses we will see. I think the play calling needs to get a little more creative.

A Dandy Don READER had a good eating crow comment about JD today

....."Wow! What a dominant performance by our team. I have to admit I have been wanting to see Garrett Nussmeier play more because of his quick release and downfield passing efficiency but Saturday I became a Jayden Daniel’s fan. The accuracy he demonstrated in the vertical passing game was most impressive, as well as his ability to manage the game. Looks like a Heisman candidate to me."

He dropped 2 absolute dimes and a great back shoulder to Nabors. If he has time to throw it’s really nice to watch

Daniels is the best QB in the SEC this season and it's not really close. He's been by and large really good but the rest of the conference has been pretty meh.

He had a good game. Now if he can string it together is another factor.

Of course. But right now, who is a better option at QB in this conference?

-Bama is a mess at QB
-A&M offensively was bullied by Miami
-Rogers has been neutered at Moo State
-Are we really sold on Carson Beck at UGA?
-Mertz had a good game but he hasn't done what JD has done yet.
-Dart doesn't scare me at OM
-Joe Milton & Tenner just got clamped down in the swamp.

I'd take daniels over anyone else in this conference right now.

This comment was from a reader that emailed in his thoughts, and not from Scott Long. Just clarifying the source of the comment. DD has been in his fan club for a while.

I have been wanting to see more quick reads and long balls from Daniel's, and saw improvement in both Saturday. He also showed improvement with hitting receivers in stride. His stats have always been impressive, but somewhat lacking in the above. The man had a day and deserves credit. I hope he keeps improving!

You sound particularly uninformed and like you’re new to football.

Jayden Daniels just had one the best games in lsu history and your post is essentially “I guess JD is good but he under threw a ball and was late on another throw.” You don’t mention when these passes took place though.

The only thing lsu fans should be saying JD just had one the best games ever and is on pace for all sec.

That wasn't Dandy Don's words. That was a comment from a reader named Mike.

I remember last year when he would put together a couple of games where he would hit the quick routes quickly. Than he would slip back into hanging on to the ball too long and would be forced to scramble. It was much better against MSU and he had time that he didn't have against FSU.

Going up against the better DL's, I'm hoping he can get the ball out fast and that the play calling would help him in that.

Agreed. And I do not mean that in a doubting Thomas way. He needs to be able to perform like that on the bigger stage. But if he keeps playing like that, I will be happy to see Nuss next year.

For me, I am coming around to the fact that the kid is much tougher than I had given him credit for. Takes some real shots then bounces back next play. And I wonder when he leaves his feet at contact if thats not by design, to keep his knees and ankles intact.

The underthrown ball was when Nabers was at least 5 yards past the safety and wide open. In that situation you definitely err on the side of underthrowing.
It was a stellar performance by JD and his receivers, especially Nabers. One thing that helped was having all day to throw against an anemic MSU pass rush. When the opposition pass rush gets more effective, he will have to make his reads more quickly.

He’s BEEN having good games, but the rant is too invested in the whole ‘starting QB vs backup QB’ debate that most of y’all refuse to see it

He’s a phenomenal QB and we are lucky to have him

No need to 'eat crow'

Ping us your reaction after his next off-day or sub-par performance

I really wish this phrase would go away.

Unless the person using it actually eats crow.
