FSU had 11 players drafted last year, and look where they are.

Everyone who says this is a "the players are sick of Miles" issue are literally numb in the brain. Wanna know why they leave?

Michael Ford was a 3rd string tailback and returned kicks for LSU. He went undrafted. The kid made HALF A MILLION DOLLARS this past year. Have any of y'all ever made 500k a year? I know I haven't. How about Brad wing? Also went undrafted, also making 400k. Spencer Ware? On IR but still making around half a million. Bennie Logan got drafted in the EARLY THIRD ROUND, and makes about 600k. It's the CBA. Nothing more nothing less.

I heard it put this way, imagine you're in law school and a prestigious firm comes to you your junior year and says, "why don't you just skip your senior year? If somebody is better or you don't cut it we'll fire you, but we will offer you 500,000$ to come to work right now." How many LSU law students would stay in school. NOT FRICKIN ONE!

And I don't blame the kids one iota.

I honestly think the players just get tired of miles.

Good God Almighty folks.

Implementation of the NFL Rookie wage scale and shifting pay toward veterans has a little to do with it, don't you think?

Patrick Peterson insists the only thing better than seeing Miles at a podium or in front of a microphone is a chest-beating Miles leading a team meeting. "He had that walk when he'd come in, his hands in his pockets, real smooth and laid-back," Peterson recalls. "He starts out real low and then gets rowdier and rowdier and starts beating his chest. I mean, it's something else." Peterson is one of a number of former players, coaches and acquaintances to wax poetic on Miles' quirky mannerisms and notable quotables to ESPN. Peterson says Miles "was fun to play for and made it fun every day. That's why he's able to recruit the way he does. I'd go back in a heartbeat and play for him if I had it to do all over again. He just has this special way of getting the best out of guys and making them believe that they can do anything."

Right- sounds like they get tired of him

it happens more at LSU because LSU brings in very talented players and $$$ talks larger than one more year in college.

I understand with what you are saying mattwells. My counter point is that the money will still be there. Why not wait a year? Enjoy the unbelievable life of a college football player (if you will be a late round pick). While you make your money sooner, it also means you will be retired from the nfl sooner. Most will be done after 3 or 4 seasons.

Other programs have a premier amount of talent also. I believe most have concerns that players like turner, and Faulk leave...as compared to Landry and beckham. I just don't hear about other programs having players leave early that are drafted so late or not at all. I understand cashing a check for $500k, but it's not like it won't be there later, or that it enables them to have a longer career.

the wage scale only affects the top top guys

there isn't a big shift in that 3-7 round money

Tygeray.

Because the sooner you get there the better. What good does it do for your draft status to get a devon walker type injury in college ball.

LSU lost an NFL record 10 underclassmen to the draft last year. 8 on defense and 2 on offense.

You fricks are so close minded. When you get the chance to make good money, you take it. Les is drafting guys that are too smart. The posters that criticize these kids for leaving early are so dumb as frick when it comes to real world logic and finance. Damn

The point being made is that compared to other teams our draft legible kids leave at a much greater rate,it's not even close. Bama had three juniors come back who would have been top 2 rds easy.

Dumb, we bring in the same highly rated kids as Tx. Bama,Ok.,USC,Ore,Geo.,etc.....no better no worse. Facts are that ours leave more readily ,why ?

Players at every school leave early. The problem is that underclassmen are leaving LSU in far greater numbers than anywhere else. Other programs have had a lot more success returning their fringe and possible late round picks.

2013 draft was an anamoly. Both Bama and LSU had 3 early entrants in 2012 and similar #s in prior years.

Sombody did a chart yesterday and prior to last year, we totaled at best 3-4 guys leaving "early".

Half the guys that left last year stayed here for four years! I wrote this in a thread yesterday...

quote:

How many of the kids that declared early last year can you truly blame?

Wing - is a punter, no difference from 5th round to UDFA. I mean come on, he's a freaking punter!

Ford - Four year player. He had already got put behind four guys the year prior and would be the same the next year, dude should get a jump and take his chance and not risk injury. Smart professional move.

Ware - He knew he was behind Hill and would have to split carries with 3 other backs almost equally. Dude should get a jump and take his chance and not risk injury. Smart professional move.

Logan - Four year player. He could have come back and possibly played himself to first round, but that is a stretch. Dude was pro ready and started the whole second half of the year I believe.

Montgomery - Four year player. Led LSU in sacks two years straight and was projected 1st round and GMs thought first round until he went looney toons in his interviewing process.

Mingo - Four year player AND a first round pick

Reid - First round pick

Faulk - Four year player and had risk/reward stamped to his forehead. He had already fricked his knee up, would be devastating to do it again the very next year and get no money. Most degrees aint worth shite in the real world.

Mathieu - He was kicked out and the longer he waited to declare, the worst his position would be. He was a first round lock if he didn't get high. Dude is going to get a 40 mill deal in 2 years if he keeps himself clean.

Simon - This is the ONLY guy I had a problem with leaving. That is also simply because he could have played himself into the first round. Long, rangy corner who covered guys like blankets his first year playing. He could have made a big impression coming back and showing his sophomore year was a slump.

Minter - Four year player. Physically ready and could not have gone any higher than early second. You can't coach speed and height so no advantage to coming back.

2012 LSU 3
