I know you said
Johnson has called him a starter without a position, so do you think he has a chance to really push for a starting position?

If I don't comment on a player it is because, they are what we expected them to be.

I'm not sure what to think of Arrambide yet. I believe he has the best chance to start of any freshman. Not only start but to be the primary catcher. It's a close competition at catcher. He didn't do anything that really stood out in a good way or bad way to me. I did see the rocket arm but we already knew that and it won't mean anything unless it is accurate.
As for Beck, I will have to see more of him hitting to make a call there. On the mound, I wasn't too impressed. He topped out at 88 MPH and I just didn't see anything too special there. Except for Sunday, I was sitting by Scuba behind the 1st base dugout, and you can't see as much on the pitchers compared to sitting behind home plate. So it's early, that's why I didn't comment on him in the original post.

Y’all are amazing. It was literally the first inter-squad. All hitters have not seen live pitching since July or longer. You criticize these young men and forget they are in class most of the week. Then practice and study. On you are tearing down literally bated .500 through the squad. As for catchers. They all had brain farts and all made amazing plays. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Just from watching Frey in batting practice, I believe the power is back in his swing. Last year he dealt with the shoulder injury almost all year and it really affected his power.
He has the potential to be a difference maker on offense. If he lives up to that potential, we need to find a spot for him. I like his potential in the OF, but as you know, it's crowded. DH could certainly be a spot but plenty of competition there as well. He plays a lot of positions well, but nothing great. I hope it turns on for him, but potential means you haven't done it yet.

Lape was a top 100 player before his High School injury but I don't know if it was as a pitcher or position player. As a freshmen he was listed as a pitcher only but was really skinny. He is still pretty thin and that is part of why the power surprised me.
He was recruited to do both, but I always thought he’d be a pitcher first. Watched him do both in person at a few PG tournaments and 1 HS game. Kid has the chance to play this game for a long time. Really pulling for him

Absolutely nothing wrong with the OP. He isn't really criticizing any of them, just reporting what he saw from the weekend for those of us that can't make every scrimmage. How about you not go after a poster who is providing some good info for those of us who really enjoy LSU baseball and following along year round.

How about you not assume I was talking about the OP. Plus just go read any of the other threads from this weekend. You will find plenty of criticism. I’m just trying to remind people what they are talking about. These are not professional players. They have other things going on in their lives.

Pretty evident by the lack of focus on Sunday. How many IVs do you think the staff issued? We were all there at one point

This is exactly what I’m talking about.

I go back to Brady Neal and jones and Kling their fr years in 23
No matter what they do in the fall until you get them up against sec pitching in the spring you don’t know what you have yet
Milam had a terrible fall last year and was not expected to be in the lineup last season
No need to start making Omaha comparisons this early
And now coupled with portal, players aren’t waiting to be developed

The way you replied to OP and wrote it made it seem that way. If not, my bad.
This is the rant though, no matter how much you remind people of criticizing college kids they will still have some of the people on here who are armchair MLB players and know all after 9 at bats. Just is what it is.

Milam- Looks a little heavier, we will see if that translates to more power. Took some reps at SS, but I'm not buying it.
Went Friday and noticed the same.
quote:
Dickinson- Fast and athletic. I think he is a threat to Braswell's SS job because he appears to have more range. We will see if the glove can stay consistent. Offense looks pretty good.
I’ll be shocked if he isn’t the starter at SS. He looks very fluid in the field.
The catcher position is going to be trial by combat.

Y’all are being way too wholesome for the rant, I’m pretty sure there are rules against it.

I don't see it as criticism or tearing down. I'm simply stating what I see. These players are all super talented and I'm proud of each one of them for being able to put on an LSU uniform. Most fans understand that what we see in the spring might be completely different from what we see in the fall. That doesn't mean they aren't interested in how they are doing, good or bad.
For you to actually be "amazed" that fans are interested in how the players are doing is actually very critical of you. Relax, nobody is tearing down any player.

Sorry you had a bad weekend at the plate. You have time to correct it.

Well you responded to the OP. There isn't any criticism going on in this thread. If you've got a problem with criticism in other threads, go post about it in those threads.

The starting 1B or corner OF on another team. Not a criticism of him at all—he had terrible injury luck last year. And I don’t want him to transfer, would love to have him. But time’s running out, and he needs to be getting consistent ABs, and I don’t think that’s a guarantee here. Maybe he just loves LSU and will stick around and battle—I hope he does—I l’m just not sure that’s in his best interest regarding his professional baseball career. He needs ABs.

Dickinson is going to be a guy for this team. I really think he is going to set the tone for this offense. They are going to put pressure on teams this year

Thanks for the breakdown . It’s early and appreciated. Didn’t see anyone else out there at the ballpark giving us their thoughts .
