On our last offensive play of the game, 4th and long...JJ dropped back...and dropped back some more..then tucked it and ran...got tackled...and actually stretched for the first down. Problem was, he was 5 yards away. He didn't even know where the heck he was.

I agree. I never understood all the excitement over Jefferson to start this season. Other than one fluke game against GTech he was completely unproven. Now he is proven; to be a very below average qb that is. Like Lee, he just doesn't have it. I'm not sure he ever will. He reminds me of Marcus Randall. Talented physically, but he does not have it where it counts, between the ears.

quote:Actually, don't ya think its a lot a bit of both!
Sure JJ is very hesitant to throw the ball and holds on to it way to long.
But the fact our 5 OL'men can't block 3 DL'men doesn't help.
Our problem on offense is a little bit of both.

Not reading the whole thread, but you and Doug are wrong. The reason JJ locks onto a target is the same reason JL locked onto a target - Crowton is telling these guys who to throw it to ( see my quote from the ESPN article in this thread ). The difference is JL forced it, while JJ holds it.
you cant be serious

And don't give me the whole JJ is a young quarterback BS. Jacory Harris is the same age and he has total reins of Miami's offense.
Dont forget Landry Jones same class and didnt have any experience at all.. USC plays a true freshman...Its either you have it upstairs or u dont...He obviously doesnt have it. Too bad he doesnt have the cannon as Russell...Who obviously shows he doesnt have it upstairs either.

what facts?
that crowton told him to look deep for Lafell on 1 play?
tell me this, if he is telling him to look for only 1 WR, why does Jefferson sit in the pocket and take a sack if that 1 player is covered?
why doesnt he scramble???
you dont have any facts. Its pure speculation, and its one of the most illogical things i have ever read on this board, and that is saying a lot

It is Crowton. It is Miles. The fact of the matter is that these two got a free pass last year because of booting Perilloux off the team. Well its now been a season and a 1/2 since then, and they haven't been able to develop a QB.
If neither of these QBs can play, then why the hell are they getting a free ride at LSU?
Our coaches are getting paid premium $$$ for a mediocre job. The responsibility is on their shoulders, not on either of these kids.

It's on both the coaches and the players. It's a team.

agreed. JJ is unsure of himself. I honestly think him watching JL struggle last year has a lot to do with it. Either way, thats not goimg to help us.
Freaking QB psyche.

I can agree with that, I just feel for JJ when a lot of people are putting the blame at his feet. The guy is 19, the offensive line in front of him is mediocre at best, and the coaches don't seem to show any trust/faith in him.
The AU game should show a lot of how this team responds to adversity.

Crowton told Jefferson to throw a play-action pass to Brandon LaFell on second down. But Jefferson persuaded his coach into changing the play, telling him to give it to Scott again.
This is precisely why I think JJ doesnt have it between the ears. After I saw this quote, I knew he was unsure of himself. I was never a JL fan after last year, but it may be time to put him back in. Garret and RS are not even in the equation, unless Les goes against his MO.

Well JJ sure is getting the JL treatment this year. Everyone is throwing the kid under the bus for not living up to expectations that were simply outrageous to begin with.
JJ is scared to death out there. Anyone who doesn't see that just isn't looking. He's slow to react, because the game hasn't slowed down for him. Things are compounded by the fact that our OL would be mediocre in the SunBelt conference. The kids head is swimming. All of this doesn't mean the kid can't be a good QB. He's young.
But, I also said the same thing about JL. Last year the kid was in the same position. Only difference is that JL was more of a gunslinger. It cost him. My biggest problem in all of this was that while the kid screwed up last year, he also did some good things. But, he was jerked and never given an opportunity coming into the fall this year.
Above all of this, IMO we have a headstrong OC who doesn't adapt the system to the player. I'm watching JJ struggle against fla. He stares down his receiver and if the 1st guy isn't open he's flustered. Fine. Why not simply tell the kid (maybe they are) that if your 1st read is covered, RUN. Or the D is coming up the field like bats out of hell, how about a QB draw with a running QB?????? There are things this coaching staff should do to ease the pressure on JJ.
This offense is playing with 0 confidence right now, for good reason. Last years D was playing with 0 confidence and it killed the season.
Over this 2 week break they have a chance to fix things. Let's see what they come up with.
One last thing, this "looking to the sideline" is also killing this team. More than a few times, their late calling in plays. On 1 crucial series in the 3rd Q, it cost us 5 yds. Yes, T-bob got the penalty, but that was on the coaches. Watch the replay. Both JJ and CS are pleading for the play. They get it with less than 3 secs. Afterwards CS is all but telling the coaches to hurry the f up. It really creates a clusterfrick. It also reminds me of something else, LAST YEARS D. Remember them looking to the sidelines completely lost.

-1. You call 11/16 for 96 yds and 1 int good? He hasn't thrown many ints this year, but when your scared to throw the ball and take chances, this happens.

Crowton is the offensive coordinator and QB coach, it is his responsibility to put the soph QB in a good situation in which he can use his physical abilities and playmakersin order to gain positive yards. when it doesnt work in the first five games, something has to change in playcalling, personnel, and formations. So I disagree, Crowton and coaching are the problem areas
In all fairness to Gary, he builds in safety valves in most of his designed plays. Some might ask what the hell is he talking about. What it means is; if the QB senses pressure coming from a direction then he a designed safety check off or receiver that should be open under that condition, the QB is to "automatically check the receiver" and dump the ball if he is open. JJ is not doing this, he is locking onto one receiver and if he is covered then he is like a deer caught in the head lights of an on coming car. It just may take a long time for him to comprehend and get comfortable with Crowton's scheme. For you 1st and 2nd chair boys, it's not like playing EA Sports, these boys coming at you full speed are wanting nothing more than to knock your head off. Unlike a video game it happens more times here in the real world than you might think!
