And they lost money then and lose money now because it is Women's Sports and nobody really gives a shitt.

I know only a small amount of people actually care about women's sports but law dictates we have to have them, so why not be good at them. I like LSU softball being a top notch program, same with gymnastics. I thought it was fun when LSU women's basketball went to five consecutive final fours. Shame they couldn't win a championship. Kim Mulkey would be a great hire and I'd be happy to have another winning program at LSU.

Why does that matter? We should just suck at things that aren’t profitable (aka every sport outside of the the big 3, and even baseball is barely profitable anymore)?

You’re right, no one really does give a shite.

BUT. LSU is paying a woman’s coach out the arse and is ok with the program losing money. If we’re goinb to throw money away at the program we should at least get decent results. Fargo’s is a clown show and Alleva keeps extending her.

Does women's basketball make money at Tennessee or Ms State?
Very few are going to pay to see a loser when the administration does not seem to care.
I wonder if Men's basketball was a money maker during the Johnson and Jones era?

Not remotely true.

It's all about building a culture of excellence. We have a top notch gymnastics coach and look at the following she has built. The meets are packed. Women's basketball could go in the same direction. You may not be a title contender every year, but a program that demands and earns its respect season after season - from the top down.

Here is another example of LSU losing momentum from where it was in the prior decade. Look at LSU 2001-2010 versus LSU 2011 to present. Not all is bad, and much is improving from a few years back, but we lost the culture of excellence and someone must restore it.

I was at LSU during the final foul runs and I went to probably 50% of the home games then and now I don't even bother to turn it on. Consider me a bandwagoner, sure, but the product is just that bad.

Mississippi State kind of proved that any school can become a power in WBB. Zero SEC championships, one Sweet Sixteen in school history, and they went to the NC in back-to-back years.

They didn't poach some all-star coach either. He was 88-110 at Sam Houston St.

There was a time when women's bball brought in more money than mens bball.

Bring in Mulkey or bring back Pokey.

Very true. Baseball makes around $400,000 per year, which is almost nothing considering the investment.

Woman's basketball is not worth wasting money on. The sport is a joke. There will never be a market big enough to sustain it. If the law requires it, fine. Obey the law but go as cheap as you can and spend the money where it can really make a difference.

Anything more recent to back you up? LINK

400-500k in profit while great for college baseball isn't a huge amount of profit.

ETA: And if that's what you're harping on, then you're missing the point. How much money a program makes should influence your expectations of its coach. A university wants success from all of its athletic programs.

That's not entirely true. I'm here in South Carolina, and it's just as arse backwards as Louisiana. The Women's BB team is a power. They win and people show up. Aside from Clemson football, it gives Coastal baseball a run for its money as the second most successful program in the State. For now.

Why would Tennessee hire Fargas? The program she runs is terrible.

CONN WBB loses 2-3 million per year, so does LSU, as others have said we should at least strive to have a good program..the $'s do not matter due to title IX etc

LSU women’s b-ball lost over 4 million this year. Big difference between 2 million and 4.
