They hired O at a modest salary with incentives

then they go and give him a raise to 6.5 million.
you do realize his contract prob had a clause in it for winning a national title right?

If this is your position, why did you start this thread saying "Don't let O hire ANYBODY" (and yes, you put it in all caps). Was your position so poorly thought out that your mind was changed by a few dissenting opinions?

Woodward suggested Pelini
For shite’s sake. If you’re telling the truth, then Woodward/LSU need to keep their hands out of the pot.

Looking at Mason's record I guess I'm falling for the PR stunt like the LSU executives.
His defense was 10th in the nation in scoring the last time he was a DC. He gave up 19 ppg in three years as Stanford DC.
He's clearly not a head coach at this level but he's a damn good DC.

“My opinion is that the administration not let O makes these hires. O continues to recruit.(where he shines)”
This was a bad take. I was mad about hearing the names Derek Mason and Muschamp.. I’m frustrated and overreacted. It’s been a long year. Haha
If Woodward does do what I am suggesting then he doesn’t trust O and should just fire him anyway.

Defenses were different even 5 years ago.
Things changed fast. His Vandy defenses prove that he didn’t he change with them.

I thought Woodward was the savior of LSU athletics. That is what most everyone on here said. O was a terrible hire until he had one of the best teams in history last year but only won 5 out of 10 this year and ya'll hate him again. Why not find an interest or team which does not upset you so. Go Tigers!

It's easy to lead when you have a bunch of yes men as followers. Winners do not accept mediocre results from anyone. You think Saban would put with the shite that CEO has let slide? He don't care if you are fiends or not you are going to do your job at a high level or find somewhere else to work.

So you’re opinion is Orgeron should hire someone he is uncomfortable with hiring to keep his job?
O should hire the most qualified guy for the job. If it makes him uncomfortable it's probably a good sign. Comfort doesn't enable you to be your best at anything.

Not guaranteed salary dumbass. An incentive is a one time payment. He just got tons of money guaranteed. It didn't return back to base payment. Nice gotcha though.

I would be happy with either. But looking at Nielsen's bio I tend to agree a little more with Coach O here.
Nielsen may be very good, but with these guys who go NFL, he comes here and puts up elite defensive stats, the NFL looks at him for a DC position, Nielsen decides hell, I don't like recruiting 18 year olds and he is back to the NFL.
If LSU wants Mason, by that I mean AD and University administrators, then He would be DC-LB coach. Why not make Corey Raymond Assistant DC/CB coach and if Muschamp is here in town interviewing as some suggest, he can be Safeties coach and assistant HC, etc.
Muschamp is not getting a P5 job again, had 2 shots at Florida and SCAR. He might get a DC job but where. I doubt it in the SEC.
Bo Davis as DL coach works for me as well.

Absolutely hired him.
One never is faulted for developing the next generation of leaders. Even if it is to replace their existing job. Company comes first. Team comes first. Always do what is best for either and things will work out OK for the original boss who demonstrates his leadership by promoting the best and brightest.
