Don't know how awesome they are going to feel wearing dark jerseys in Baton Rouge in late August.

Usually when these type of teams have success against the georgias and alabamas of the league, its because the game is played during the season when bama has been playings different styles of offense and isnt prepared for the option. Scheming for it in 4 days is pretty tough. Lsu will have plenty of time

They will be fine. Statesboro is just a freaking hot as Baton Rouge in the summer time

This game is tough for me. I grew up and are still a HUGE LSU fan, but I also graduated from Southern.

I'll want LSU to win but I also want Southern to have a really good showing as well.

Similar to what AU does when they have a running qb.

I wish I could say "oh it's just georgia southern" but hell, they could come out on fire and managed to beat Florida not too long ago.
It was "oh it's just TROY" during the 2017 season.

Who are the individuals/departments who determine the opponents of LSU Football?

I get that, but I wouldn't want to wear our purple jerseys in Baton Rouge or Statesboro in August. They are going to be 10 degrees hotter than us.

This game will be closer than it should. We won't show anything with Texas the next week.

We'll know that we aren't ready for a playoff run if we're hiding offense in week 1.

You come out with the intent on completely annihilating the opposition, not to just get it over with so you can get to the bigger opponent. The best teams don't pick and choose who to take seriously.

With our athletes, we will just wear them down but early on they could give us some problems. Big teams tend to look past smaller opponents, especially first game of the year, so don't be surprised if they keep it close the first half. That offense can give defenses fits, especially if they build some confidence early. I think we will win by 21/24 points and then we ramp it up for Texas!

They don't necessarily pick and choose who to take seriously, but it's a natural consequence of playing a 'weaker' opponent (See Alabama vs Citadel last year). Sometimes it just happens. It is up to the coaches and leaders on the teams to make sure there are no let downs.

Additionally, good teams do pick and choose what offense and defense to show against a weaker opponent. Sometimes they show a particular set or play so a future opponent has to spend time preparing for it; sometimes they hide a particular set or play so a future opponent won't be ready for it.

Haskins threw the ball 117 times in 2 games (Purdue, Indiana)

Some highlights from bowl game last year:

So ... a last second FG to beat a 7-5 E Michigan team?
Option / running QBs have bothered LSU in the past. Hopefully we are ready.

Exactly, and look what happened to them in the NC. They weren't ready because of complacency. Saban talked about it. They coasted on talent after LSU and paid for it. They were just too talented to not get to the NC.

Yes, and our coaching staff has not done a good job of that thus far. So how do people think we're ready to make a playoff run?

Saban talks about this. It's not normal or within human nature to have the type of focus it takes to win a championship. It's abnormal. So if we just throw up our hands and accept that there will be games like that and our coaches are just going to let them succumb to human nature, then we're pretty much admitting that they're not being prepared properly to win championships.

Yeah, see I know you just got here and may not know this, but we lost to some school called Troy not that long ago.

Coaches at this level that know how to focus their teams don't lose to Troy.

It was a bad game from GA Southern, just showing kind of how they play from an offensive point of view because some folks were confused.

Did destroy a really good App State team last season. I could show that game but nobody would really care

The Bashers bring that up at least 3 times a week (I'm guessing it is on your "talking points" sheet?) So, I've heard it at least 150 times.

Reminds me of the Michigan loss to APP State. But, Michigan fans NEVER bring it up. Only guys who hate Michigan.

Here's a YouTube link to Michigan losing to App ST if you haven't watched it lately:
