I’ve googled Lsu fan day 2023 and can’t seem to find anything. I’ve never paid much attention to this before, but I’ve finally got a little dude (6y/o) who’s in to football.

Is this like that weird running of the gumps thing bama does? We don't need any cringe thing of that sort.

You can go to the spring game or media days or various practices that are announced open to fans and bring your kid to that and you can get autographs and photos with the players/coaches and whatnot. Hell with NIL now most stars have autograph signing sessions at various times. Can't imagine why with all of those opportunities there needs to be a specific fan day on top of it all.

Was it because of COVID or before?

It was a fan day and started way back, at least as far back as DiNardo, and continued until some point under Orgeron, not sure if it was COVID that actually ended it.

Your gump fixation aside, what is cringy about a fan appreciation day that primarily serves as an avenue to get young fans fully invested in LSU athletics? Are you one of those who worry far too much about what others think?

You can't imagine why something that relies heavily on fan support to finance itself would have a day specifically aimed at fans and fostering fan participation in younger generations might be a good idea.

They switched it to a spring fan day event before covid and than covid canceled it altogether
That gave them an out to not bring it back
With nil they ought to do some sort of paid autograph event

Fan day is the Spring game. Thats when all the alumni come to town and you have the opportunity to meet and get autos from them all. As far as getting access to the current team, I have no clue cause I dont waste my time at them any more.

At some point, I would think the paid events start to eat into the next-generation fanbases. I hope that does not happen but loyalty on all levels is slowly eroding in our society, I am afraid.

They had one in 1985 under Arnsparger. I was a student photographer in LSU media relations back then and worked at fan day that fall. Still have some old black and white prints of Roland Barbay giving me the finger.

Fan day is when they started giving out free football schedule posters.

Never attended one, but always made a point after fan day/ before season start to pass by the SID and grab a few, one for myself (always represent in my office) and some to mail to my fellow grad friends in Oregon and D.C.

it used to be a big thing. kids collected all kinds of free handouts from cheerleaders, etc. got to meet players and take photos with them. you could get your posters you would frame autographed, footballs, helmets, pre season annuals, etc. i showed rohan davey something back in 2001 one and he was like wow i have not seen this one yet.

i think last one we went to was in 2012 with mett. i have a gold helmet and white helmet signed from 2009 and 2012.

becuase of the heat they started moving stuff indoors. i remember in 2009 it was all held at the downtown river center

in 2012 it was at LSU but some were at the indoor track and field and the rest maybe were in the PMAC if i recall. they totally stopped having those long lines in tiger stdium in the heat.

My 43 year old son still has his framed Tommy Hodson autographed poster along with a picture of him and Tommy he got at fan day. As a kid I always had chances to be interact with the players. Jim Taylor, Warren Rabb, Johnny Robinson, Billy Cannon were always around. The fat cat perks and NIL deals are fine but basic interaction with the kids on fan day is where it’s at. BK needs to bring it back to tiger stadium.

Also very cool! Those types of interactions do a lot for a program in generating rabid and loyal fans.

I was in school then and knew Roland he’s a realtor in New Orleans, recently connected with him on LinkedIn and know he’d get a kick out of seeing that picture.

Wondering the same - garbage if true that they no longer have it.

Just a thought.

I have never seen a fall practice open to the public. Not sure where you are getting this.
