I feel like baseball has the right model. If you want to go pro out of high school, go pro. If you go to college, it's a three year commitment.

Very, very very few football players would be physically ready to go pro out of high school. Maybe a pro team would stash them on their practice squad for a couple of years while developing.

the NFL sets age requirements, not the NCAA.
the NFL needs to fork up their own money for a minor league.

I can see something similar as Marshall happening. Show and up play and if the team cant compete at the highest level, opt out for rest of season. If we are winning, stay til the end.

How does the practice squad work with rookie salaries and stuff

dude keep this negativity to yourself. No reason to think he will opt out of next season right now.

Better chance that he transfers than opts out.

He has not been great this year. He can improve his stock by playing for someone.

Pretty good chance he plays for lsu next year unless there are underlying issues we are unaware
Of.

Honestly, after having to count on Stevens at S this year...... if anyone has the thought of opting out, just let them walk

I doubt it too.
But if he does, once the season is of no value he is out.

As soon as they "opt out" their scholarship should be pulled.

Definitely. Don't pay if they don't play. When I stop going to work, they will likely decline to continue to pay me or give me access to things. Let that agent pay for tuition if they want to stay in school.

I've only followed the "opt out" thing when hearing of players doing so.
Is it a permanent NCAA rule now or was it only implemented because of Covid?

With all this opting out BS, why dont they just follow NCAA basketball and let them go pro after a year?

The NFL doesnt want this. Owners dont want to waste money on players a year out of highschool. The percentage of players that dont pan out would increase greatly.
