Take a look at John Savage’s record, who is as primed as anyone to get a second title this year. It took him about 10 years to get back to the CWS last year. In 2024, UCLA was 19-33 and 9-21 in the Pac-12.
Savage doesn’t have a fraction of the institutional investment or fan support that LSU has.
UCLA gives so few shits about baseball that they don’t even own the land the field is on. That field is probably months away from being turned into homeless veterans housing

I’ll say it again
When Jay Johnson leaves, you people are going to hate his replacement.

Haven't won a conference game since his "money" comments.
You think the players aren't paying attention to the situation?

Which is an even worse look for us.

Hard to believe a Head Coach you are describing and presumably a talented staff he assembled has let a program deteriorate to the level it has !
Posted on 4/26/26 at 8:08 am to Rickdaddy4188
That whole thing rubbed me the wrong way
There’s a time and place to handle that
Jay messed that up for sure
I’ll say this, nil or not he doesn’t have two titles by now at any other program

Good Luck for him going to this new regime for more $$ with this shiite showing this year. As he admitted this is the team he put together. You had 3 kids already on your roster that are putting up good numbers elsewhere that you let walk for the Portal Guys.

Those nattys are quickly becoming fools gold given how deplorable this season has played out. This is McMahon level bad and the great ones never have this type performance.

agreeing with the poster but JJ has no leg to currently stand on to ask for more or bitch about money. This team is fundamentally awful almost across the board. And the money he spent, is sitting in wood and one of them is probably doing eating challenges for more wings or hot dogs during a game. Ask in a better position. LSU gave him a good allotment and he spent it poorly with this a result. Why would we put good money after bad.
Use sentences and complete thoughts, please.
Wow.

Oh really?
You wish he’d “except” one?

Why? We don’t hate BKs or McMahon replacements yet.

No they aren’t lol. It’s idiotic posts like these that really have me question or sanity as a fanbase

Did BK or McMahon win 2 titles in the last 3 seasons before shitting the bed? No. Dumb comparison.

Funding is not and never was the problem or the reason for the problem so it would be very foolish if he did - even more so now than it was when he did it earlier.
Allocation of that funding on the other hand - at least this year - IS a problem. And that's on him.
And I don't think any other MLB teams will be hiring college coaches, that was a one-off anomaly that I don't see any other teams rushing to replicate.
And I like Jay - I hope he stays as long as he wants - but if he doesn't - great coaches will be knocking down our doors to get this job. He knows how good he has it here, better than anyone - he coached at Arizona and saw firsthand the difference.

I take nothing away from him and the nattys.
What? Of course you are.

I said currently, aka today, to ask for more money he doesn’t have a leg to stand on.
I could argue that this is the best time. Boosters can get complacent with success when they’re not as hungry for it. And I don’t know if you noticed, but our university, our AD, hell, our governor, just moved heaven and earth in the past 4 months to fire 2 guys with huge buyouts and spent a ton of money poaching new coaches who were already in good jobs and basically gave them both a blank check for staff—on and off field—and players.
Neither of which have had nearly the level of national success that Jay has had. He’s trying to fight for his program to make sure they don’t get left behind. Which is what he should be doing, whether we are 40-0 or 0-40.
quote:
This was a year of the most money he’s had
Irrelevant. It’s all relative. This was a year that MOST college baseball coaches had the most money they’ve had. I’m just using these number to make a point, they are completely made up. But if Jay got $5 million last year, and every other contender got $4 million, and he got $6 million this year, while A&M, Texas, State, Georgia, whoever, got $6 or $7, then we are falling behind, even though he may have gotten a million more than the year before.
You are comparing it to his previous LSU seasons, you should be comparing it to other schools and their investments. We are not competing with previous LSU teams. We are competing with current and future SEC teams. And it’s his job—his obsession—to keep LSU as the pinnacle of college baseball and maintain that standard. He should be fighting for that no matter what kind of season we’re in the middle of. We wouldn’t want him—and he wouldn’t have 2 NCS in 3 years—if he was the kind of guy that was a wallflower and stayed in the background, embarrassed because we are in the middle of a down season. And no, he doesn’t have 1 leg to stand on. He’s got 2 and 2 CWS NC trophies to stand on.
quote:
all the momentum you could ask for
I don’t know how much that matters anymore. If anything, playing in the championship series in Omaha 2 weeks after the portal opened hurt us by putting us behind. And the way so many other teams are investing in their college baseball programs, we are going to have to overspend to get guys away from those teams. The proven studs are staying where they’re at more lately. This past portal class had nowhere near the high level talent of the previous ones. The landscape is constantly changing and everybody’s having to figure out how to navigate it every year. What worked in ‘25 may not have worked in ‘26. That’s why we have seen so many teams lately make it to Omaha or even win it and follow it up by not making it out of regional the next year, or not even
making the tournament like we’re about to do.
That’s not a reflection of Jay Johnson, it’s a reflection of the current landscape of college baseball.
quote:
at a school that loves baseball and supports it to the utmost.
Yeah, as long as we’re winning currently. We collectively, give almost zero grace.
We are spoiled—and rightfully so considering our success—but some other fanbases are much more supportive of their teams even when they’re not winning championships.
quote:
He misssed. He missed.
No doubt. He absolutely missed this year. And nobody would agree with that more than Jay. But given enough years—especially now—EVERY SINGLE COACH in college baseball is going to eventually miss. shite happens.
quote:
Hes a good coach that got the Maneri syndrome maybe of laziness
Alright, this is just dumb as all frick. You’re too stupid to continue wasting energy on.

Because too many of yall believe LSU baseball is so big that anyone will just come in and half arse their way through an undefeated championship season, and any coach who manages to have a loosing season is terrible.

You have a point but I'll tell you this and it's IMHO true.......there's a better chance of that scenario playing out than anywhere in the country and it's really not all that close.
